Why would no-one retire in Birmingham. It might be a really good place to retire to actually. Plenty to see and do.

Some people retire to the seaside and then return to a town once boredom sets in.

Plenty to do in and around Brum. Art Gallery, theatres, canals and then of course the wonderful Symphony Hall. Birmingham's parks win awards all the time. Then there is all the sport, world class athletics, famous football teams and cricket at Edgbaston. Great restaurants. I could go on and on......................

I await with interest Galen's response to being referred to as "he"!

Oddly enough I had not been in an Art Gallery till I came to Birmingham and I met a retired Art teacher who told me there is a storey in most paintings and showed me how to pick it out.
I think you could go to the Art Gallery every day for a year and not finish with it.
Andie likes to walk from Selly Oak station to Broad street.
We then have a coffee and possibly a cake and Andie has a drink of water.
One of the restaurants puts a cup of tea in his bowel free of charge and they find him a bit of food.
He likes any walk but he always seems to be a bit more lively on that walk and in Bournemouth or Llandudno and his tail seems to wag a lot more.
I thinks he likes these walks a bit more than Sutton Park.
I also meet a friend at the Symphony Hall at least once a month often at a free Jazz concert which happens on a Friday or a Saturday.
There some good theatres.
Oddly enough sometimes I go 2 or 3 times in a week and then nothing interests me for 5 or 6 weeks.
Andie was born in Luton which is just outside London.
The breeder really wanted him to go to a local owner but he sold him to us when he realised we were very sad to have lost our previous dog.
I don't think Andie wants to go back to the London area.

Are the Botanical Gardens still open? I used to like going there.

I should think the statistical possibilities of someone moving from the
UK's largest city to the UK's second largest city are not all that remote. Maybe "a mile away" is a bit of a coincidence, but just a bit.
Birmingham Botanic Gardens certainly are still there and a lovely place to go. No dogs allowed though.
