Shock adverts (Barnardos campaign 1999)

My first reaction to the picture shown was to want to howl in horrer, but I did read the article.

I think it was good thinking on behalf of the fundraisers. Many people would still have thought of Barnardos along the lines of the old orphanages. It was good to show people how they, in fact, endeavour to intervene in horrific family situations and thereby save the child from a future life of misery.

The ads seem to have got younger people donating. A wake-up call, with plain and straightforward information , was obviously needed.

Horrific though.

I wasn't in the UK in 1999 so I have no idea what sort of impact these adverts made at the time, but it took me about 3 goes this morning to get past the headline photograph and read the article. The analysis is interesting.
