My daughter called me Edina for years - can't think why! Still it could have been worse I suppose, I might have been Patsy grin

Greatnan Sat 13-Jul-13 21:09:51

I would like to identify with Atticus Finch, but I don't think I would have his courage.

Thank you, absent - I don't think I know anybody who would let me organise their lives! Which is a pity, because of course I could do it so much better than they do themselves! grin I sometimes envy people who haven't read Jane's novels - they have such a treat to come! I can read them over and over again, for the wit and the language - I know some passages off by heart.
I was staggered when DD2 said she found them boring - fortunately, DD1 is another devotee. I suppose we just expect the people we love to share our tastes, which is very unrealistic of us.

Bones! As in Temperence.hmm

annodomini Sat 13-Jul-13 20:52:37

Come to think of it, if you like Emma, you are actually identifying with Jane Austen!

annodomini Sat 13-Jul-13 20:46:32

You are not a bit like Emma, Greatnan. She was a busybody who tried to organise people's lives. If you are really like that, you hide it very well! grin

Greatnan Sat 13-Jul-13 20:16:59

I am afraid I identify with Emma - Jane Austen said she was going to invent a heroine that nobody but she would like - I love her!

I thought the bloke in the park was a bit creepy...grin

Give me a grumpy dentist any day! (And he was quite deep, too)

kittylester Sat 13-Jul-13 20:04:31

I didn't like the fact that dentist's wives were automatically bad cooks sad.

Though the bloke in the park was a bit of alright!!

We felt like the Waltons at c*******s.

feetlebaum Sat 13-Jul-13 19:36:53

She was ... well shall I just say... endearing. Sadly, I think I'm more like Geoffrey Palmer...

whenim64 Sat 13-Jul-13 19:21:22

Ria! I loved her and her awful cooking grin

petallus Sat 13-Jul-13 19:09:03

When Butterflies used to be on the tele, I was always being told I reminded people of the Wendy Craig character.

Ariadne Sat 13-Jul-13 18:01:57

No, my mother was Hyacinth!

Us? Feels like the Waltons when they are all here. Only with more wine

Ella46 Sat 13-Jul-13 17:01:43

I think I'm a much slimmer version of Nurse Gladys!

janeainsworth Sat 13-Jul-13 16:55:25

Sybil Fawlty is my role model grin

kittylester Sat 13-Jul-13 16:53:16

No, when, that's my mother! grin

whenim64 Sat 13-Jul-13 10:09:59

My sister was definitely Hyacinth Bucket! grin

peaches41 Sat 13-Jul-13 10:06:02

I'd probably be a female version of Victor Meldrew.

@whenim64 - That made me lol!! grin

merlotgran Sat 13-Jul-13 09:58:42

An older version of Barbara from The Good Life and my sister in law definitely MARGO....hmm

DH even does that irritating whistle that Tom used to do.

whenim64 Sat 13-Jul-13 09:34:22

Oh, yes Jess especially the time when my son drove me in his low slung sports car and I fell out on to the pavement on hands and knees. He walked off and left me to it. grin

JessM Sat 13-Jul-13 09:26:21

Is there a tiny bit of many of us that identifies with Patsy and Edina - the bit that would like to behave like irresponsible teenagers... grin

Marelli Sat 13-Jul-13 09:10:41

Or Norah Batty and Compo! grin

Marelli Sat 13-Jul-13 09:09:51

I think OH and I would probably be compared to George and Mildred...hmm!

whenim64 Sat 13-Jul-13 09:07:17

I was having my hair done yesterday (daughter has a small home salon) and the other woman who was having hers done joined in our chat, talking about the children, plans for the weekend and so on. I hadn't met her before, but she knew who I was and has met several members of my family at school events and children's parties. As she was leaving, and we were still laughing about children's antics, she said 'now I've met you, I know who your family reminds me of - the Larkins, from the Darling Buds of May! You're Ma Larkin and C (daughter) is Mariette, then there's the twins.' I don't mind that comparison, and it set me thinking.......smile
