I shall ask the vet when next we buy an expensive sack of calorie controlled nutritious pellets for Rory. Can't ask him. He's awfully sensitive regarding such matters.

Do they treat heterosexual animals too?

I had to visit the vet with a sick gerbil once. The vet was entertaining everyone in his waiting room about a hermaphrodite rat. He was really excited about it, never seen one before, etc.

If one's a proper hermaphrodite, is one gay? Serious question.

When we very young, my sister and I took an injured gerbil to the vet. We offered a shilling for the pet to be made well. Sadly, he was beyond help. The vet was very kind [said he would put him to sleep, instead]

Only if you have a sexual relationship with another hermaphrodite????

...and he wouldn't take the shilling.

My friend took a sick mouse to the vet, along with his wee son, whose pet it was. The vet looked at it and took my friend on one side and whispered: "If I were you I should stamp on it!" Rather tarnished the image of the caring vet!!!

That's horrible!

40 years ago our white mouse had its paw bitten off by the cat. We took it to the vet who amputated the leg neatly at the shoulder. He charged us 50p for doing it because he'd never done it before and wasn't sure it would be successful. The mouse lived out the rest of its life very happily on three legs

DD2 (aged about 5) and I took our cat to the vet with a huge growth on his neck. {That is the cat's neck, not the vet's.} Vet explained that it was just a big Tick and swiftly removed it, putting it in a box {The tick not the cat}. We were supplied with anti-tick stuff and about to leave when DD2 asked 'Can we take it home now?' 'Yes', said the vet handing over the cat. 'No, not the cat', chirped DD2, 'The cat's pet tick please'.

Thanks Granny23 I've been feeling a bit poorly this evening, that made me laugh.

Sadly we could not find a vet in the village close to where we were staying on holiday. A field mouse got into the house and was hiding in the wet room. We resorted to the vacuum cleaner because it was hiding behind a pipe but the mouse got injured as it was sucked up the pipe. We took the bag out of the vacuum and placed it in the garden in the hope that it would quietly leave because we didn't have a spare bag. It eventually crawled out but we later found it dead, not sure whether from it's injuries or from fright. My sister felt awful because if she had not screamed we wouldn't have known it was there, it had run across her bare feet

My granddaughters have three pet Guinea Pigs, and one of them(Silky) became rather lethargic, and off her food.A small abcess was spotted on her tummy, so my daughter took her to the vet,who gave Silky an injection, prescribed a minute bottle of medicine and promptly charged £47 ! Then he said, if she dosnt improve, bring her back and Ile give her an X ray........My hubby was astounded at the charges. He said he would deal with Silky if she didn't improve.......I wonder what he means........!

jings I told Rory what you said. He went into one of his most complex yoga moves and almost fell off the chair.

I recall that our pet wasn't a gerbil...it was a wee white mouse. And we offered half a crown to the vet. We had a gerbil, too.

Some years ago one of our cats went missing and after a frantic time 'phoning the RSPCA and local vets I eventually located him at one of the vets. He had been run over and left in the gutter and had been rescued by the police and taken there. (This was in the days prior to microchips).

I went to see him and was greeted rapturously by a very thin-looking puss with his leg in a cast and various other injuries. The vet said he wasn't eating so could I bring in his favourite treat. (fish)

I steamed a tail-end of best haddock, put it on a plate covered in clingfilm and sallied off to sit in the surgery waiting room with the plate on my knee.

The man next to me was obviously puzzled and kept looking at the fish and then at me and eventually he cleared his throat and said in a loud stage whisper "I don't think they can do anything for that".
