I just finished off the last one, so here we go again!

nightowl Sat 10-Aug-13 21:23:15

kitty I'm shattered too and I only have one DGS here since early yesterday morning until 7.30pm tomorrow evening - not that I'm counting the hours or anything. I am loving every minute of having him but don't know how I will feel when I go back to work on Tuesday without having had a weekend to recover!

Oldgreymare Sun 11-Aug-13 09:49:41

Tegan MW was one of my fancies, that voice, that battered old leather jacket..... swoon.
Saw him (in the flesh) giving a talk in our local small theatre..... no leather jacket but the voice was still there. Spoke to him afterwards and asked about the jacket, he said he would resurrect it for the next series... missed it so don't know the outcome!
I think I would lose a finger if I tried archery hmm
Kitty I'm still recovering and it's 6 days on, mind you I've been playing catch up on the allottment and jam-making! hmm again!

Tegan Sun 11-Aug-13 12:01:21

He's wearing a brown jacket in this series [not leather, though] but has taken to wearing lots of different scarves recently [like Dan Cruickshank]. I do find his series a bit confusing; think Janinas programmes are much easier to follow. He did revolutionise History programmes though, didn't he? I did fall asleep half way through so need to watch it on iplayer again. It amazes me to think that so long ago people were travelling to Rome [I mean, how did they know how to find it?] and were building amazing cathedrals etc. I can't quite get my head around it confused.

Why would you lose a finger, ogm? There's usually at least one thickness of leather between your fingers and the string.

Bags Sun 11-Aug-13 14:59:54

It's called a tab.

Galen Sun 11-Aug-13 15:26:00

We're not using tabs, is it someyhing you progress onto?

Nonu Sun 11-Aug-13 17:30:13

We have had a really pleasurable afternoon at the coast . We went for a very good lunch , then took a good bracing stroll along the sea front .

To end it we then had a scrumptious ice cream , so life is good .

smile

Tegan how rude of them! Oh and i play for fun at local sports centre just on our own no one is a champion!
I have felt horrid today. Nauseous. Yet was unable to be sick still in nighty!

Hope recover as my son coming tomorrow with his family beach and zoo planned.

Grannyeggs Sun 11-Aug-13 18:01:37

Today we did not much, went out and did not much again. It was lovely!
I am gearing up for having my two GC from tomorrow until Thursday, and confess that in between the not much I knocked up a chilli and a bolognaise.smile

glassortwo Sun 11-Aug-13 18:15:28

I went out on Friday night with gillybob and a few friends I used to work with, left DD using my laptop, she went upstairs to bath the DGC and the puppy attacked my laptop there was not a key left on it shock.......you could have played scrabble with the keys, just as well I had had a glassortwo when I came home or he would have been strung up........ never mind I am getting a new notebook from DD so there is a silver lining as laptop was on its last, the new power cable for the laptop only came on Thursday after he had chewed through that, so I am restricted to using DH Ipad when I can.

I have been packing for going up to the house on Friday for just over two weeks so I have had a busy day.

Oldgreymare Sun 11-Aug-13 18:37:28

Because I'm sure I'd get all tangled up Bags. I'm very good at trapping various parts!
Today I have made the last batch of blackcurrant jam, until I feel like dealing with those in the freezer altho I shall probably use them in puddings. I don't want to see the jam-pan for ages!
Sorted out the kitchen too as it has been a jam factory for ages!

Gally Sun 11-Aug-13 19:12:09

Am exhausted having spent most of the weekend overseeing the demolition of the garden shed by SiL. Emptying it took for ever, then sorting out the contents and finding a temporary home for everything and today clearing out the site ready for a new one in a couple of weeks time; it's amazing how much rubbish accumulates after 25 years shock. My hands and nails are in an atrocious state as is my temper - over two weeks of resident DD's and gc's is taking its toll........not that I don't love having them here, I am just tired!

nanaej Sun 11-Aug-13 19:21:51

wine for Gally

I fought with the ivy growing up along the long back fence. Just trying to trim it back but it is high and I am short! After all my efforts I got cleaned up and went out for lunch at the home of some long term good friends. We had a lovely lunch in their beautiful garden and enjoyed lively conversation until we realised it was 6:00p.m. so we thought we had better let them get on with their evening as he has to go to work tomorrow!

A lovey day and a busy week ahead.. book club tomorrow, off to a rose nursery on Tuesday, hair cut Wednesday, lunch with pal on Thursday and DGS on Friday!

Bags Sun 11-Aug-13 21:51:01

galen, DD1 and family arrived just about when you posted your last about tabs. Been well occupied since then!

Anyway... tabs. Yes, you'll come to that. You won't really need one for a 12lb draw weight and just a few shots.

Galen Sun 11-Aug-13 22:00:49

Right . Fine. See how I go?grin

Butty Sun 11-Aug-13 22:45:47

Just had a lovely evening with friends. Invite to Shetland in the new year. We said yes!

glassortwo Sun 11-Aug-13 22:52:14

Visited GC now that they are back from their holiday in Belgium. They stayed with their Aunty and went to a posh wedding which was conducted in Dutch and English. I was assured they were well behaved even though the service was 1 hour 45 minutes long shock I am sure the royal weddings are not even that long.

Today I proudly watched my Chinese 'daughter' take the oath of allegiance and become a British citizen. When she arrived in this country five years ago she had never heard or spoken an English word, never listened to any English music and had never seen the English alphabet. Today she swore the oath confidently and was word perfect.
The ceremony was beautifully done; the certificates were awarded by the Lady Mayor wearing full regalia and we all applauded and waved our British flags at the appropriate time - it was very moving. smile

MiceElf Thu 15-Aug-13 20:06:09

What a lovely event Granny A. Welcome to Britain to your dear adopted daughter.

kittylester Mon 19-Aug-13 11:08:42

How lovely GA You must have been very proud

I'm resurrecting this thread not, I hasten to add, because I know you are all dying to know what we did over the weekend but because I love it. smile

But, at the weekend we went to Sadlers Wells to see West Side Story (which was wonderful even if it NEVER has a happy ending). We also saw Relatively Speaking which was not the best Ayckbourn but fun anyway. As bits of the tube were closed we had to walk miles.

On Sunday we went to the Scarecrow Festival at Flamstead with DD2, DSiL and DGD2. There were wonderful scarecrow displays which people had obviously worked really hard to make, a fete, food stall, ice cream vans and hoards of people. Flamstead is a pretty village but, again, we had to walk miles and I half expected a call to say DD had gone into labour as she has only 6 weeks to go and the baby looked very low to me!

Ariadne Mon 19-Aug-13 16:43:28

Today I persuaded dear old Theseus that yes, of course he can buy a new bike! He is cycling seriously again now, and is taking part in a Rotary charity triathlon at the weekend. (The old guys are doing a sort of relay and he's doing the cycling)

His upbringing - Scottish, Presbyterian, plus miserly mother - kick in big time when he is wanting something that he doean't desperately need and it is a real pleasure to be able to say "Do it!

He has just returned with a beautiful new racing bike, which I shall now go and admire...smile

Tegan Mon 19-Aug-13 20:25:03

My bus pass arrived in the post grin. Does that make me officially old ]sad]?

kittylester Mon 19-Aug-13 21:27:03

Officially eligible for a bus pass Tegan - but definitely not sad. sunshine

Tegan Mon 19-Aug-13 22:03:29
