You`re nobbutt a spring chicken yet Tegan!

Spent a fair bit of today taking hubby back into hospital for his other operation, to try and sort out his bowel cancer, then back again tonight for visiting. I know they have to give you both sides of the story, but it didn`t exactly boost his confidence to be told that there are a lot of risks with the op, the main one being that he might not come through it!

Tegan Mon 19-Aug-13 22:11:30

They do that all the time number. The S.O. didn't have his varicose vein operated on because they told him the operation might kill him. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a NHS ploy to cut the waiting lists for operations by making people too scared to have them confused. It's all to do with us going the way of America and everybody suing the hospitals if anything goes wrong [I think]. Hospital visiting is very tiring/time consuming, isn't it.

Tegan I was so looking forward to getting my bus pass at 60, but now I'm told I have to wait four more years until I'm eligible for the state pension I have 'bus pass envy' which I'm dealing with as best I can. [sigh] envy

Oldgreymare Tue 20-Aug-13 08:55:09

Celebrating the return of the computer which has been to computer hospital! Now to catch up.smile
Number hugs, I know I've mentioned tis before, but my sister is 12 years on from her cancer and doing well! (Just had 2 knee ops too!)

hummingbird Tue 20-Aug-13 09:56:08

Grannyactivist, you should check out your local area travel arrangements - we qualified this year for a pass that lets us use all local buses, trains and ferries (at 60) free! Why will you have to wait until you're 64 for your pension? I'll get mine in 2015, at age 62 and 3/4! grin

Now awaiting the next onslaught visit from family. This time it's DS2 and family - they have two little girls of 7 & 9. Cannot wait to see them - it's been a couple of months now. Chocolate cake made and iced, rooms ready!

DS is doing the Rotary triathlon on Sunday (Theseus, as I said somewhere else) is doing just the cycling bit in an OGs sort of relay. DDiL, who is a team GB athletics coach, has flatly declined as she wants to do some shopping, coffe drinking and chatting. That's my girl!

Tegan Tue 20-Aug-13 13:14:55

Just getting ready to go to the dentist for a check up. Just a routine one, but am a bit worried about some lumpy things in my mouth confused. Dr says he's not concerned but I am the worlds biggest hypochondriac and also worried that if it's a blocked gland and they have to zap it I might not be able to talk for a while shock!

Nonu Tue 20-Aug-13 16:42:52

Just had a lovely afternoon at my Health club, lots of laps , then a very pleasant sit on the deck having a natter !

Another day of brewing strong tea for the plasterer, who I begin to hope may finish in an hour or two. Then everywhere will need cleaning, but that is what tomorrow, or the day after, is for. I have been so bored that I have eaten crisps, toast and jam, all the yogurts and anything else I could lay my hands on.

Grannyeggs Tue 20-Aug-13 17:27:03

Dentist this morning sad, visiting my Step-mother in hospital and going to the theatre tonight, a mixed day really, feel like a bit of cheering up tonight. It's Felicity Kendal in Alan Aykborn's Relative Values. (I think my spelling may have gone to pot, sorry!)

kittylester Tue 20-Aug-13 17:39:20

Grannyeggs we saw 'Relatively Speaking' at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very light and not quite as clever as Ayckbourn's later plays but good fun. Enjoy!

Hope the dentist wasn't too bad. grin

Grannyeggs Tue 20-Aug-13 17:57:36

Oops I did mean Relatively Speaking! Thanks kitty, and I am really looking forward to it ! smile

Stansgran Tue 20-Aug-13 21:51:01

Had all the family I have relatively speaking here today so I had booked a photographer and he did us all in various groups. He was a bit shocked when DH grumbled and I said that I might need a decent photo for his obit! That's if I outlive him which I hope not too. And today after several days of four children and respective parents I definitely feel well over the hill. Dear SIL has sorted out the pooter as well.

Ariadne Tue 20-Aug-13 22:03:18

Here they all are, and it's wonderful. And I am quite tired. smile All took off to the beach and the yacht club to see DGS1 (hero to the girls!) on his sailing course, after the DGs had had a swim and pootled about on the beach. Just put the dishwasher on, and there is much squeaking from upstairs...lovely, isn't it?

numberplease Tue 20-Aug-13 23:34:29

Hope the dentist wasn`t too bad Tegan, did you find out about the lumpy bits?
Hubby arrived back in ICU at 7pm. Says he`s in a lot of pain, but looked better than just after his last op, a month ago.

LizG Tue 20-Aug-13 23:57:08

Glad your hubby is back after his op numberplease, best wishes for his recovery. Went to a WI birthday party today and ate too much delicious food. Yesterday my lovely sil cleaned our pond and fitted a new pump and filter. It is lovely to hear the sound of running water again.

Tegan Wed 21-Aug-13 09:55:29

number; the dentist couldn't even find any lumpy bits other than normal lumpy bits that everyones got blush. Other than that the sensitive teeth cleaning session gave me the usual 'Marathon Man' flashback [they should never have made that film!]. I was chatting to a man in the waiting room that had been hit by a lorry a couple of years ago; it mounted the pavement and he went underneath it. He had bits of metal in his head and both of his legs were broken along with a couple of fractured vertebrae. Yet again I marvelled at the incredible resilience of the human body. I once mentioned to my Dr about an operation on some conjoined twins and he just said 'it's just a big plumbing job really'. I hope you're still finding time to read with all this going on around you smile.

Ella46 Wed 21-Aug-13 15:24:36

number hope he recovers well flowers

numberplease Wed 21-Aug-13 22:07:40

Thank you, he`s a lot better today. I marked today by making myself look a right idiot, I fell headlong in the hospital car park, landing on my bad knee and the now nearly as bad knee. A nice lady came to help, but I told her she`d never lift me (I can`t get up once I`m down), then a man and woman from one of the ambulances came and got me up. They wanted to take me to A & E, but I said I couldn`t, as I was on my way to Intensive care!

Ella46 Wed 21-Aug-13 22:14:12

Oh dear number I hope you haven't done any serious damage to your poor knees!
I bet they will hurt like hell tomorrow flowers

Nelliemoser Wed 21-Aug-13 22:20:56

I have just watched Gary Lineker on "Who do you think you are!" What a lovely man he is. He seems never to have been carried away by his success at all and is still a modest man with a good sense of humour.

It is interesting to speculate why he has remained grounded as such a pleasant guy and so many others become arrogant and obnoxious and fall foul of success. Just a little observation to end my day with.

Tegan Wed 21-Aug-13 22:38:58

I've actually heard that he's a real grump so I need to watch the programme confused. I know they still idolise him in Barcelona [or at least they did a few years back when I went there].

kittylester Thu 22-Aug-13 06:52:53

Oh dear number hope both you and DH recover well. flowers

One of my mum's claims to fame was knowing Gary Lineker's grandmother. Being the snob that she is she was never sure whether this sS a good thing or nit. grin

Yesterday, I survived [just] two under twos (from eight thirty am to six pm!!!), making tea for the decorator (again), the man coming to look at the guttering and DH's brother, SiL and their daft dog. The timing was really bad in that we had to keep all the doors open for painting shock. We had fish and chips for tea grin

Ella46 Thu 22-Aug-13 07:12:51

Glad you survived kitty sunshine I hate having decorators in at the best of times, so I think you deserve a medal grin
