Cristiano Ronaldo and very fond fan

Good that he is so sympathetic. And the others on the pitch. And the crowd!

absent Thu 08-Aug-13 20:29:33

No it isn't. It's self-indulgent and stupid.

Ariadne Thu 08-Aug-13 20:32:35

So...? Think I agree with absent. But then, I just do not get football and all it's concomitant nonsense.

vegasmags Thu 08-Aug-13 20:40:06

I wonder what would happen if I tried to invade the Foyle's luncheon and hug my favourite author hmm

j08 Thu 08-Aug-13 21:06:14

Just good to see a bit of kindness and understanding being shown. Nothing to do with football really.

Stansgran Thu 08-Aug-13 21:23:24

Vegasmags there is a Durham literary festival soon. Visit us and you might be able to hug Rachel Joyce or others. We had Ian rankin and P D James last year. Close enough to sign a book but I didn't hug.

vegasmags Thu 08-Aug-13 21:28:58

Ooh Stansgran don't tempt me!

Deedaa Thu 08-Aug-13 21:37:27

I walked up to Gino Di Campo after a cookery demonstration and hugged him and it was VERY nice grin

absent Thu 08-Aug-13 22:27:05

Bully for you Deeda, but you hugged him after the demonstration; you didn't interrupt it and him.

j08 Thu 08-Aug-13 22:43:20

That's the remarkable thing absent. No one seemed to mind!

(obviously you weren't there hmm)

absent Fri 09-Aug-13 00:12:38

Were you j08? Is that how you know that nobody minded? The body language on the field seemed to suggest considerable discomfort and embarrassment.

j08 Fri 09-Aug-13 09:58:19

No, I wasn't there. I didn't see anyone looking uncomfortable on the video.

The thing is, the fan is obviously in love with Ronaldo. It is a nice change to see gay-ness tolerated on the football pitch.

As usual, GNrs missed the point. hmm

KatyK Fri 09-Aug-13 10:03:46

I thought it was rather lovely

Nonu Fri 09-Aug-13 10:20:41

I just though that it was nice that he was permitted to do it, didn't seem any particular harm in it IMO.

GillieB Fri 09-Aug-13 10:38:22

Interesting that some people think it is ok to invade the pitch - I am pretty sure if it happened in English football (and it does, occasionally), people would be upset. The problem is that whilst this fan obviously meant no harm, it might not be the case with the next one who does it.

Elegran Fri 09-Aug-13 10:47:24

What if a hundred people invaded the pitch? It would take ages for them all to get back to their seats so that it could all restart, and by then another couple of hundred would have decided to join in so as to be seen on TV.

And what if there were teerorosts among the invaders?

Very nice that one was tolerated, but could be the thin end of the wedge.

Elegran Fri 09-Aug-13 10:48:02

Teerorosts would be OK, but terrorists would not.

KatyK Fri 09-Aug-13 10:50:13

I hadn't thought of all those points ! You are right - I took it on face value.

Ceesnan Fri 09-Aug-13 11:22:22

As usual some people are making za mountain out of a molehill.

Ceesnan Fri 09-Aug-13 11:22:50

A not za, fat finger.

Elegran Fri 09-Aug-13 11:24:57

If you had put "za molehill" as well, I would have thought that was deliberate.

j08 Fri 09-Aug-13 11:29:07

Oh celebrate it for what it was FGS! An example of tolerance and good nature. hmm

Nelliemoser Fri 09-Aug-13 11:29:41

What about the outbreak of streaking at cricket matches several years ago? No one seemed to get too worked up about that bit of silliness. The main problem with that was that it was Just Not British.

Nonu Fri 09-Aug-13 11:33:58

I thought the "streaking " just harmless fun , didn't really do any damage to any one .

smile

PRINTMISS Fri 09-Aug-13 16:06:14

I agree Nonu, streaking was always a bit of a dare; but in this day and age hugging any one you are not on really good terms with seems to be fraught with all sorts of inuendos. I hasten to add here, I am very much a touchy, feely person, and enjoy a hug when appropriate.
