Heaven is.....

Eating foie gras whilst listening to the sound of trumpets, according to Sidney Smith. ( I approve of the trumpets but not the foie gras.)
For me this morning, heaven was sitting on a hillside in the sun, surrounded by wild flowers and looking down on my block of flats, about 100' below. I had walked for two hours in the forest behind my home, got nicely lost, as usual, found a logging track and figured it must lead somewhere and emerged onto the hillside. I had a picnic (I always carry one now, having had one episode of feeling faint as my bp dropped through exertion and dehydration). I could very faintly hear the sound of the Matchbox cars crawling on the road below, but the only sounds nearby were cowbells and the hum of insects. There were clouds of butterflies, mainly settling on some flowers that looked like cornflowers, but were lavender.
I have lived here for three years now and loved every minute. If it were not for my wish to be near my daughter in New Zealand, I would stay here until I died, or at least as long as I was able to live independently.

Putting a £1 on a horse at 80/1 and being there to see it win at the Cheltenham Festival blush. Although in a few weeks time it will be lying on the sofa watching BBC4 into the early hours knowing I haven't got to get up for work the next morning smile. Going back a few years it would have been seeing the children fast asleep in their beds knowing they were safe.

Oh dear - now you have reminded me that my first sight of the coral on my yearly snorkeling holiday puts me in heaven too! And opening a new book - and eating coffee ice cream with cream on top. I guess life is just full of good things.

Walking on a sunny beach, a small hand in each of mine and constant chattering about what is on the beach, in the rock pool, what's for lunch, what makes the sun keep going and why can't a cousin be your brother too!.......

Feetle - I am not sure if you failed to notice that I began the OP with that quote? Or did I get it wrong in some way?

Greatnan Wed 14-Aug-13 16:58:03

I certainly intended this to be one of the threads we could all enjoy without any sniping. Shall we just forget the diversion and carry on with our pleasant chat?

Sitting in the not too hot garden watching many bees humming around my plants, drinking first and only cup of coffee of the day with a wholemeal biscuit, Kindle propped up on Kindle holder, Basil my pet rabbit deep in the undergrowth, cat lazing by my side, looking forward to seeing grandchildren early tomorrow morning.

Didn't take long for the snake to enter the Garden of Eden (snake = the spirit of dissent, not an individual I hasten to add).

MiceElf Wed 14-Aug-13 16:15:18

Absolvo. Before the next person jumps to correct.

MiceElf Wed 14-Aug-13 16:12:35

Ego te absolve

Movedalot Wed 14-Aug-13 16:09:01

Shall I write out 100 times "I must give GN more of my time and proper attention"? grin

Ana Wed 14-Aug-13 16:06:40

As I said....

Movedalot Wed 14-Aug-13 16:06:17

Yes I did fail to notice, sorry!

MiceElf Wed 14-Aug-13 16:04:40

Moved you obviously failed to notice that I put a contribution up thread. The thread isn't boring, but nit picking is.

gracesmum Wed 14-Aug-13 15:51:31

Foie not foi, *feetle - that would put it in "Religion and Spirituality" grin

feetlebaum Wed 14-Aug-13 15:49:00

According to the Rev Sydney Smith, wasn't heaven 'eating foi gras to the sound of trumpets'?

Ana Wed 14-Aug-13 15:47:51

It was a joke, Greatnan, although I should have realised it would be misinterpreted.

Greatnan Wed 14-Aug-13 15:44:59

I am quite sure that the yawn was in response to the nit picking about which topic to choose for the thread - as if it makes any difference!

Greatnan Wed 14-Aug-13 15:43:39

Gracesmum - you have brought back such a wonderful memory, of seeing my first baby's face and falling in love with her. So much joy, it almost hurt! (50 years later, I get the same feeling when she meets me at Nelson airport!)

Movedalot Wed 14-Aug-13 15:41:44

MiceElf why did you say that? confused If the thread is boring just leave it but it is a shame to imply that the OP and all subsequent posters are boring. I just ignore threads which don't interest me as to say so might be seen to demean those who do find them interesting.

gracesmum Wed 14-Aug-13 15:39:01

A moment of heaven I still recollect from 36+ years ago was the friendly maternity ward of Westminster Hospital on a sunny Sunday morning, all peaceful, baby DD (2) sleeping contentedly in her crib, nothing hurting and looking forward to seeing DD1 in the afternoon to meet her little sister for the first time. It was almost tangible. smile

MiceElf Wed 14-Aug-13 15:27:13

Yawn

PRINTMISS Wed 14-Aug-13 15:22:15

Oh! surely not Ana, this is a thread about heaven on earth, what we find really enjoyable, and our own personal heaven. People will often describe food as heavenly, nothing to do with Religion and Spirituality, just an expression of delight at something.

Ana Wed 14-Aug-13 15:12:50

Should this be in Religion and Spirituality....? confused

whenim64 Wed 14-Aug-13 15:08:44

Mine's reclining in the garden with a book on a sunny afternoon, dog snoozing at my side, just the sound of insects and birds, and maybe a lawnmower in the distance.....zzzzzzzzz.....heaven smile
