Good afternoon to you lovely lot. ffinochio I shall enjoy a bowl of your carrot and ginger soup. What's more, I love granary buns. when I'm pleased that you're feeling better today. LizG it's lovely to have visit the kitchen. It's a cosy place to meet and greet. number bags's tapestry brings a smile to my face whenever I see it.

As some of my GN friends know, neither Mr soop nor I are Christians. However, we have returned from attending a celebration of the life of our friend, which was held in the village kirk. The kirk was packed with people when we arrived. A lady asked, would we mind sitting upstairs in the gallery, so I started to mount the steps directly ahead...only to be told that I was in fact going up into the pulpit. confused blush hmm

Our friend's family had come over from Canada. The son and daughter gave moving and humorous insights into their father's productive and highly creative life. He had taught art. Became a potter and made beautiful jewellery. He was a man with tremendous energy. He created a stunning garden that was open annually to the public. He baked AMAZING special occasion cakes. We are now partaking of a wee dram, in his memory.

When either Mr soop or I die, we wish to be cremated without fuss. We wish that family and friends would meet on the beach opposite our home and, to the sound of a piper playing 'Westering home...' our ashes to be scattered along the shore-line. After which, we trust that a bottle of Champagne could be "popped" together with a bottle of fine malt whisky and everyone present will raise a glass and smile...

Liz I go for last hour first, then work my way back, but sometimes get engrossed and miss other great threads, like you. Three hours would be helpful.

whenim64 Sat 19-Oct-13 12:57:02

Just the ticket, ffinnochio. Thanks! I've shaken off my lurgy and all the home made soup has obviously done the trick. I love carrot and ginger soup smile

ffinnochio Sat 19-Oct-13 12:08:44

A gallon of carrot & ginger soup is warming on the hob and granary buns are piled high! Enjoy.

Duly done thatbags now just need to remember to go there first.

"Watching", not I'm Watching.

thatbags Sat 19-Oct-13 09:57:14

Naturally, I have Soop's Kitchen on my "I'm watching" list smile

thatbags Sat 19-Oct-13 09:56:40

lizg, there's a green rectangle at the top pf each thread on the right hand side labelled "watch this thread". You can choose that and then check your "I'm watching list". I do that for some threads that I know I'll want to go back to.

Otherwise, I mostly go straight to "Active" rather than last hour.

Sometimes "last day" is useful too.

LizG Sat 19-Oct-13 09:38:27

Hope you are feeling a little better today whenim. Good that the little dog's problems turned out so well, but what a lovely story and brilliantly written. I felt I was there, thanks soop.

I don't know how others follow things on GN but I tend to start with 'last hour' which means I miss a lot of lovely threads. I had to search quite hard to find my way here today. Perhaps they should change it to 'last three hours' and I may be able to keep up. This is a lovely place to be.

Your bedroom looks like a haven of tranquility, soop.

Appreciate the tartan rug, thanks. I have revelled in my cold this last couple of days - some Jewish penicillin for tea, and then I think I'll stop being so self-indulgent! grin

numberplease Fri 18-Oct-13 17:43:49

Agree regarding repositioning of tapestry. Your bedroom looks very inviting and restful Soop.

ffinnochio Fri 18-Oct-13 17:43:11

Get well soon when! flowers

soop Fri 18-Oct-13 17:26:59

when I shall put the tartan rug around your shoulders. Keep warm. I hope that you recover soon.flowers

Have had a change-about. The beautiful patchwork tapestry that dear bags made for me, has found a new position in our home. Mr soop has mounted it on the wall just above the bedhead. It looks super, as it echoes the very same shades in the bed throw and tartan cushion. In the recess, I've placed a vase of leaves. Had I left bags's work of art in the recess, it would have lost it's impact. Hope you agree. Pics in my album, together with this year's fawn, who paid a visit at lunchtime. smile

Now I must see if bags has posted anything about the birthday hairdo. The perfect gift.

whenim64 Fri 18-Oct-13 16:13:37

grin got no whisky in, so I've substituted Calvados and have just enjoyed a deep sleep on the sofa. Must do that again at bedtime! grin

annodomini Fri 18-Oct-13 16:02:35

Look after yourself, when. Whisky, lemon and honey. It won't cure you but it will help you to forget how bad you feel. smile

Nelliemoser Fri 18-Oct-13 15:59:56

I have brought the custard tarts I bought from Asda this morning. I hope they are as tasty as they used to be from there. I am on my fasting day today.
I booked myself another Geology holiday yesterday. In Madeira in February this time. The return plane fare from Manchester cost £219. Excellent value. I won't discuss the other associated costs which are not unreasonable for all meals and transport while there.

Lona Fri 18-Oct-13 15:34:31

Oh dear when, I do hope you feel better soon. Keep taking the hot toddys, and then you at least won't care so much grin

whenim64 Fri 18-Oct-13 15:04:13

On behalf of all dogs in distress, thankyou soop! flowers thank goodness that particular dog turned out to be ok.

Looking forward to the next instalment of minibags' hairdo grin

Don't come near me, anyone. I'm having a hot toddy, then it's back to my sofa to continue coughing razor blades and sneezing over the dog! Must have a flu jab! Aaatchoo! Ouch!

soop Fri 18-Oct-13 14:30:23

Hello there! It's late in the day to be calling in on you lot but I've had an exciting hmm time shopping in Tesco. Need a large mug of strong coffee and whatever yummies are on offer. Bless you, bags , flapjack will be such a treat. And, talking about "treats" brings me to the text that I received from bags when I was in Campbeltown this morning. I could NOT understand a word of the cryptic message. I had to beg to be enlightened. Finally understood that Minibags was being treated to a very special hairdo. I usually log off late afternoon, so I had no idea that Minibags was even going to the hairdresser, let alone having a purple dip-dye, which sounds like the perfect birthday surprise. grin

As we were walking through Campbeltown, we passed a very sad looking dog. It had an injured back leg, was wet and shivering and looked pathetic. I imagined that it had run away and had been hit by a car. Couldn't leave it unattended, and was joined by another very concerned passer-by. Passer-by went off to look for the police patrol car [he said it was due to cruise the main street at any time soon] and when he left, another couple joined me. They proposed visiting the vet and possibly taking the dog back there for treatment. Then a few others joined in. So, now the main thoroughfare is teaming with concerned dog lovers, all being very gentle with the collie/cross who had a marvellous temperament. Policeman returned with passer by number one. Dog now surrounded by a large proportion of Campbeltown residents...all making lovey-dovey noises in the dog's ear. An aged man strolls out of what used to be Woolworths. He joins the throng. The dog recognises him [as he is the dog's owner]...aged man explains that his dog is nearly 17 and has a very hard life but was in fact waiting patiently for his master to finish shopping. Big smiles all round. Dog gets lots of fuss from one and all...dog then leaves the scene of the mini drama and hobbles off along the way. Members of the crowd sigh with relief. We pat each other's arms knowingly and move on...

Gagagran Apricot flapjacks! Irresistible! I shall have one with this afternoon's tea break. smile
Number ffinnochio Lona and when...and *bags Thanks for your company. I'm off to catch up with the ironing. Too many hours spent decorating means that there is a Monroe to tackle wink

Gagagran Thu 17-Oct-13 20:11:56

Big tin full of apricot flapjacks here Soop - you need the energy with all this decorating. I am impressed. (Also love your bird - I have some wooden ones). If Bags makes date slices you should be OK for entertaining walk in GNs for a while! wink

whenim64 Thu 17-Oct-13 19:47:21

Lovely bird, soop. I have a bird sculpture that my son gave me one Christmas. Grandson, then 6, asked what its name was, and when I said he could give it a name, he pronounced it to be 'John the Bird!' and so it has been ever since. smile
