My cat once brought into the house (unknown to me at the time) a mouse which must have been injured. Mouse had escaped from cat by hiding in a corner of the dining room where a spare leaf from the table was kept.
The day before DD wedding and a family dinner arranged I went to get the table leaf to find a very dead mouse whose bodily fluids had seeped into the edge of the polished leaf. Even my poor sense of smell was in operation !!
I tried scrubbing it, Febreze, bleach and anything else I could think of to get rid of the smell and did succeed slightly as well as removing a large patch of polish. I ended up sticking a large plastic bag over it and made sure I was sat in the 'right' place. Nobody commented but they may have just been polite !
I still don't know why I, or anyone else, couldn't smell it until it was disturbed.
