Another Telephone Scam

Just had a call from Magarthea Telecoms telling me they can stop me getting nuisance calls. I explained that we are registered the TPS and so he should not be calling me. He failed to understand and kept talking over me! I explained that a reputable company would adhere to the list of the TPS but he kept telling me that the TPS can't stop the calls getting through. I looked them up and they are a scam.

He wouldn't take the hint and said I was rude to him. I explained that not agreeing with him did not constitute rudeness! He still didn't go so I suggested that if he failed to listen to people and kept talking over them then his career in sales would be rather short. Not sure he had previously dealt with someone who didn't agree with him but remained calm and carried on talking to him. Didn't do any good but made me feel better.

Good on you Movedalot, think it shows one of the main points though. A reputable company would not argue and would stop as soon as you mentioned the TPS. TPS does not technically stop folks calling you....but it just shows he was willing to break regulations by obtaining your number and calling you...hence must be a scam.

I always just gently press the OFF button and do not get engaged in conversation.

Personally, i let them talk to fresh air, it's their phone bill, not mine. If i'm in a hurry, I tell them they are being traced and will be prosecuted.
All else fails, keep a whistle handy - preferably an Acme thunderer.

Is it an Americanism? I couldn't use it myself.

Merriam-Webster dictionary "—used as a warning to look out for danger especially overhead or to clear a passageway "
