On the edge of the coffee

Yes, I know that's a strange phrase. DH has his "I'll just humour her" look on too. The thing is, I decided to put some really lovely creamy cream (none of your bloody white stuff) in my post-archery coffee when we got back half and hour or so ago. After I'd drunk it (topped up a few times), I says to 'im I says: Coffee tastes different with cream.
DH: "Creamier."
Me: Well yes, but it's not that; it's something on the edge, but I don't know if it's the edge of the coffee or the edge of the cream.
DH: Silence but dons humour her look.
Me: Sniff (huffily). Some people just don't understand.

So... um... does anyone?

He's on the G&T (Fentimans tonic, which he says is like gin only without the alcohol – and he gives me the patient look!) wink

Just thought I'd ask.

I use semi-skimmed milk on cereals...

I expect so...got to go and watch Coronation Street now! smile

No! Homogenized is when the cream has been pre distributed through the milk.

Innit?!

Ana Sun 08-Sept-13 19:00:20

So that you can have skimmed milk, perhaps, jingl? wink

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 18:58:45

I suppose they just take it for cream. It so wrong to homogenise milk. No "top of the milk" anymore. Why do they do it?

thatbags Sun 08-Sept-13 17:46:03

Where does all the cream go that's taken off skimmed milk? In the days before homogenised milk, you had the best of both worlds – cream off the top (if the bluetits hadn't got it first) and then skinny milk underneath. Or you could just mix it up and have proper milk all the time.

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 17:42:16

Suppose so! hmm grin

Ana Sun 08-Sept-13 16:31:14

Er...would watered-down ordinary milk do?

#anxiousexpression

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 16:27:21

No! Won't do!

Try it. #controlfreakeryatitsmax. grin

Ana Sun 08-Sept-13 16:22:51

OK, I'll take your word for it! smile

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 16:18:42

It just softens it a little.

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 16:17:57

It flipping' does! hmm grin

Ana Sun 08-Sept-13 16:00:10

Shouldn't think it did at all! grin

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 15:55:08

It doesn't' interfere with the taste of the coffee too much.

Ana Sun 08-Sept-13 15:53:04

Skimmed??? Hardly worth having...hmm

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 15:50:12

these make an excellent cup of coffee with no faffing around. Just add a splash of skimmed and tip of a teasp of dem.

Don't know how they cracked it but they have.

Read granny23's post a few up, jiggns. She explains it perfectly. I've decided I'm not keen on coffee with cream. Prefer milk. I keep meaning to try it black but ....

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 12:12:02

Tried it. Was reminiscent of evaporated milk. Dunno wot tattybags means about "edge". hmm

j08 Sun 08-Sept-13 11:33:19

tatbahgs should remember that visceral fat is unseen. But lethal. smile

Well, feetle, my dad used to say that if he could ask for a glass of beer in the language of any country he visited, he would be perfectly at home. And he was.
