As a Scot born, bred, educated...and exiled, I'm sad to say that the Outer Hebrides are just about the one area I haven't visited. I hope I'm not too old to remedy that. smile

Welcome - I hope you enjoy gransnet as much as I do, I'm a recent joiner. We're off to Western Scotland in a week or so, cottage on the coast. My husband has done the booking and I'm ashamed not to remember the name properly. It looks fabulous, and will take 2 well behaved dogs. I expect mine will have to go into kennels then, and if anyone else has 2 well behaved dogs, let me know.

Welcome hebridean lady. flowers I am embarrassed to say that I have never visited Scotland, let alone the islands. You live in a wonderful spot.
Strange things happen to our messages sometimes, it is not always our fault! I have learnt to keep away from the 'back' key to prevent double posts, but it still happens sometimes.
If you would like to tell us more about yourself, even add photos, you can create a profile which is visible to all. Your name will then appear blue and can be clicked on to view.

A warm welcome, hebrideanlady. We have many members in Scotland and I am sure you will soon get to 'know' them.

Welcome to Gransnet hebrideanlady. Unfortunately I haven`t visited any of the islands, apart from Gigha, but we love Western Scotland, and hope to visit more islands in the future.

Margaret is very elderly, she is so lovely, we have her to thank for us being here

Gorki Tue 10-Sept-13 22:34:22

That's the lady ! I am glad to hear that she is still alive as when she wrote in 2008 she said that her late husband would have been 95 then so I guessed she would be quite elderly. Please give her my best wishes. I will send you a PM tomorrow with my real name and the family name I am researching.

Hebs Tue 10-Sept-13 22:25:27

If this is any help the lady who sold us our plot of land lives over the road from us, her family used to own The Westford Inn, her name is Margaret McCauley

Hello hebrideanlady and welcome to gransnet. We are scattered not only throughout the UK, but across the world from the US to Australia and New Zealand. However, I don't think that we have any other members from the Hebrides but if we have, I am sure they will be quick to correct me. smile

Gorki Tue 10-Sept-13 22:19:46

What a small world !The lady who gave me some information about my family history lives in Claddach Kirkibost. She and her husband used to own Westford Inn. She may not still be alive now as I last heard from her in 2008.It amused me that her address was just a house name - no road or anything . I guess everyone knows everyone there.

gracesmum Tue 10-Sept-13 22:07:29
