Has anyone else had problems when they've posted birthday cards with contents that haven't arrived?? It seems to be happening more and more often. I sent my granddaughter a birthday card recently with a gift card inside which didnt arrive. Furthermore my son similarly sent a card with a gift card to the same person that didnt arrive. Earlier in the year I sent a card elsewhere with content which didnt arrive. And there have been other times. What's going on?

Theft.

Yes I agree...theft.

That's what I thought but didn't like to say. Seems like it must be the postmen at the delivery end. What can be done about it. I think it's time the Press took it up.

When I lived in West London, out cheerful pleasant postman with whom we were quite friendly, was arrested and charged with numerous accounts of theft.

Don't post in a fancy coloured envelope. Coloured envelopes say'' look at me, I might be carrying a birthday gift''

It doesn't always have to be theft. I remember reading about a postman who was found with a shedload of unopened post because his round kept getting bigger and bigger and he just could not deliver them all every day.
Can't remember where.
After privatisation, which at least three quarters of us do not want, it will become worse.

Did you report it the various incidents?

One Christmas about 5 years ago, none of the 60 plus cards I posted were delivered. It took a while for this to become obvious. The following year, a local postman was sacked for stealing post.

My DiL has had this problem several times and has reported it each time. The first time she was told it must be reported by the person who posted the item but after the third time when it had become obvious that the problem was local she was told it would be investigated. There was never a resolution.

Theft is more likely to be in the sorting office than on the delivery round. Some years ago DD had her new credit card intercepted at the sorting office and information collected from it and an attempt made to use it. Once the data had been copied, the letter was resealed and delivered.
