And, if you do, can you recommend any or do they all end up as bad tempered battles for supremacy and the moral high ground? sad

Having been a member of gn since early on, I am really unhappy about the vitriol often unleashed on here. The odd spat is understandable but GN seems to have a large number of, mostly new posters, who delight in creating discord.

So, can anyone recommend any general forums like GN used to be.

Aka course it does, 'it's mostly fruit' is my catchall phrase for most puddings..Cherry Garcia for example smile

You are a saint so a bit of sinning will do you good cupcakes galore

Aka Wed 18-Sept-13 14:36:49

Not a saint ...I have it on good authority that I'm a 'Very Very Naughty Nana' ...out of the mouths of babes wink

You are too generous. POGS. The letters might stand for

Grumpy
Reactionary
Unsympathetic
Morose
Pedantic
Pompous
Antisocial

POGS of course stands for

Perceptive
Observant
Generous
Superior!

I think that over time we have got used to the regular posters and make allowances for some, agree with others and ignore still others almost automatically. We know who is the Bully, the Condescending One, the Self-satisfied Moaner, the Irritatingly Off the Point One, the Opinionated One (especially on matters of which she is completely ignorant), the Last-on-the-Band-Wagon One, the Calming One, the Excited One, the Well-informed One, the Well-rounded One, the Humorous One, the Indignant One and so on and so on. New posters can be a bit more challenging and disrupt our complacency.

I don't post that often now but have done so in the past so, no doubt, earned my own less than flattering sobriquet. Please don't tell me what it is. grin

What a perceptive list.

I particularly like 'Last-on-the-Bandwagon'

I've no doubt I'm a bit of all of 'em. Not many angels on here.

Ana Wed 18-Sept-13 19:31:38

Some are, of course, a combination of several types!

And we probably wouldn't all agree on who fits into what category - depends on whose views and personality you feel an affinity towards.

j08 Wed 18-Sept-13 19:31:47

NOT the bully though.

j08 Wed 18-Sept-13 19:33:03

How do you know whether someone has knowledge of the subject or not?

Do you yourself know everything?

Ana Wed 18-Sept-13 19:33:19

Crossed posts. Certainly not the Bully, jingl! grin

Ana Wed 18-Sept-13 19:34:15

Who? confused

absent Wed 18-Sept-13 19:43:31

jingle That was a tongue-in-cheek reference to myself. smile

Ana Wed 18-Sept-13 19:45:33

Quite a few of us on here! grin

POGS Wed 18-Sept-13 21:01:07

As the saying goes 'To see ourselves as others see us'. grin

Greatnan Wed 18-Sept-13 21:12:29

But which others? If my friends and my 'not friends' described me, neither would recognise the other's description.

Ana Wed 18-Sept-13 21:14:59

Quite. As I implied in my post of 19.31.

thatbags Thu 19-Sept-13 08:49:24

Interesting list, absent. Except for the first, I reckon quite a few are all of those, including, possibly, you. Normal people then. We knew that already smile

thatbags Thu 19-Sept-13 08:51:05

Oh, just seen your later post! Oops! That'll teach me not to reply to A post but read what comes next grin

No, it won't wink

Ariadne Thu 19-Sept-13 09:09:01

Bit late, but happy belated birthday, Liz! flowers

I am liking the reflective tone here, and it is making me wonder about myself too!

Greatnan Thu 19-Sept-13 09:14:28

I know my faults - my family have never scrupled to tell me them!

whenim64 Thu 19-Sept-13 09:22:53

I know mine - feedback comes thick and fast from my children! grin

janerowena Thu 19-Sept-13 23:28:20

Having read all this lot over again, I am more convinced than ever of my last point (I think it was the last) on P4 - that no-one should post without re-reading. Everyone on here seems to put a completely different interpretation on one post. Try slowing down just a little?

A small confession - I have one lady who is so unfailingly sugary and lovely on my board that I long to reach for the ban button. blush She never joins in a conversation as such, just writes reams of short affectionate phrases with kisses.

janerowena We've had a couple of Sick-making Ones in the past but are mercifully spared any current members of that sort.
