I had a Philpott crisis on Sunday. I wanted to defrost two portions of a moussaka which were quadrant shaped.

I tried the medium Pyrex dish too small. I put them in the rectangular one, they fitted in that but I then remembered that dish is just too big to rotate in the microwave.
Eventually a large pyrex flan dish worked. Quadrants are particularly awkward as the curved shape has to be just right. I never get it right first time.
It's not as if using a larger dish to start with takes much more dishwashering up.

I have merrily poured hot jam through a jam funnel without checking how full the jar is getting.

Just a thought jane I have been known on occasions to put a freezer bag & it's contents into a casserole dish or saucepan, bung the lot in the freezer then take out the dish or pan once the contents have frozen. (Does that make sense?)

bags , love it! Especially as I had thought that it might be a gender thing. I made shepherds pie today and consulted Mr P as to which dish would be the best fit. He's got a really good eye for it, unlike me

His ability to put homemade soup into the right size containers without mess, under fill or over flow is legendary!

But maybe I'm doing him an injustice and it was more a case of "I've started so I'll finish."

Though I do have some sympathy for MrB. I find it hard to judge whether a rectangular frozen slab will fit into a circular saucepan....
