How many members?

It is a thought that if every member lobbied their MP/waved a banner/even wrote to a newspaper simultaneously or somehow made their voices heard in unison we co uld deafen the world - and highlight many many wrongs.

Who counts as a member? Is it people with profiles, people who regularly post, people who enter competitions, visitors to the site?

Everyone who has signed up surely counts as a member.

How many page views then, Kat ? That is measured, surely, by one of those statistics applications?

All the expat forums I use show the number of members, but they are not accurate because they don't subtract the numbers that have left. For each member, they show the number of posts they have made, and you can see the list in descending order. You can, of course, search for a member on this forum and it will tell you how many posts they have made, but there is no complete list. I think I can guess who is the most prolific poster - and I would be pretty high up myself! (Especially in view of all the jokes I posted!)

How do you find that Greatnan ? I can only find a list of posts in which the search engine has found the name you were looking for - and even that is wildly inaccurate, like most things you look for in the search engine. It has told me recently that there was no trace of a sentence that I remembered had been posted a few days previously and quoted exactly.

AS far as I remember, when I put my own name in the search box at the top right hand corner, it told me how many posts I had made.

Now it is telling me that my name appears in 2,380 posts, but of course some of them would not have been posted by me.

But if I put in "bedsit" it tells me 82 messages posts. That is 82 references to "bedsit" not posts by a bedsit.

Mine gets the message that it had thrown up more than 500 posts, but did not specify how many.

Now it says that "Greatnan" matched more than 500 posts.

Obviously wrong as I have posted over 1,000 jokes - surely it can't mean threads?

"More than 500" could be any number from 500 up.

My point is that it is references to a word, not posts by a named member.

1,730 – but I'm not at all sure that they all me as it is a common word. In any case, I've only been absent, as it were, since the end of last year. Previously, I was absentgrana.

Absentgrana comes up with 1,520. I don't think any of this makes any sense at all – at least not to me.
