DH has had his bus pass for a few years now. Lately he has been teasing me that I will be eligible in January.
I have just looked at our local authority site and discovered that entitlement is linked to the new female state pension age. Not 60 as he and I both thought. Which means DH that you can shut up until May 2019 !!

I cycled all the time in England, but gave it up when 6 months pregnant at age 34. Then we moved to Australia with our new baby. Eventually I got another bike but cycling isn't the same here - drivers can be hostile and it is quite dangerous at times. So I sold it.

If there were cycle paths separate from roads I'd be back on a bike at age 68; I'm fit enough.

I think when authorities are encouraging all and sundry onto their bikes, especially in town, they do forget that some people cannot use bikes because their health or otherwise make it impossible.

I used to cycle a lot, despite a very poor sense of balance but had to give up when cycling began to cause hip problems. I walk as much as I can but rural living where most facilities are only available in the nearest town four miles away limits how much you can access on foot and, as I said earlier, I get travel sick on buses.

I try to plan my life to do as much as possible every time I use the car. Meanwhile I do enjoy the walks around the countryside that rural living gives me.

Penstemmon, hope you got your bus pass OK and are now enjoying free journeys, as I do, on the Guildford Park and Ride. I have to say, I do feel rather guilty, when bus pass holders in other areas have to pay on their Park and Rides. I think it should be free everywhere considering the horrendous money everyone pays in council tax.
