Shewee!

A serious question, has anyone experience Shewees? I absolutely hate bobbing down in the bushes or behind trees. I am tempted to buy one but not sure how good they are.

Flower This was a subject discussed in the early days of GN, I think. Try searching for the original thread which had quite a few comments.

I will, what's it under Absent?

Flowerofthewest Mon 21-Oct-13 23:46:22

Wish there was a 'search' on here

Yes, they can be very useful, if, like myself, you have times of being bed ridden due to illness. I always have one in the car, just for emergencies. The fact is they are so cheap, why not buy one!

Flower It's called Female Urinals and I have bumped it for you. I haven't bothered to reread it – it was a dormant thread – but I hope it's helpful. There is a Search forums facility on GN (that's what I used) but it not always as helpful as it was this time.

A couple of friends have used them due to illness (we're all cancer patients) and said they were brilliant. I think both of them bought them from stockists on Amazon.

Try one, flower. Practise using it in the shower first. It's still not as easy to pee standing up for women as it is for men (well, the peeing bit is easy, but the not getting one's clothes wet while doing so is trickier) because the gadget has to be situated lower on one's anatomy. This means most jeans zips, for instance, don't open far enough.

I think crouching in the bushes is easier, myself.

There are these potable urinals too

portable!

Nelliemoser Tue 22-Oct-13 08:30:55

ThatBags The likelihood of still getting clothes wet is my problem with them.
I have never tried and you would need to try with walking trousers and jacket etc on. Which must mean needing to rearrange a lot of clothing to get the damn shewee in place and to be able to make sure it still doesn't dribble over the clothes then.

Crouching down if you can, stands a far better chance of not ending up with damp patches. It also means one is less visible to others. I really can see so many potential problems with the mechanics of it.

I am a great fan of the Shewee. I have several in various pockets, rucksack and car. After a few practices initially, I have never had any difficulty using one.
I remember one particular occasion when a group of us were soaked to the skin on Exmoor in driving rain (HF holiday). Others found it almost impossible to peel off the layers on a comfort stop, but I just unzipped the front of my trousers and mission accomplished!

I've never tried one, but I was in a large Tesco yesterday, and they sell them there!

thatbags Tue 22-Oct-13 09:02:12

If you're already soaked to the skin, you can just sit in a loch or stream and pee fully clothed.

Though perhaps you didn't mean actually soaked to the skin, shysal wink? I have been, in the Lake District. It did get to the point where walking through the end of a lake rather than round it didn't make any difference to how wet we were. We all had dry clothes, well wrapped in plastic bags, in our rucksacks but there was no point getting those out until we got to the youth hostel. It was quite liberating not to care two hoots about how wet we were. Even our money was wet. We had to peel our pound notes carefully out of our purses to buy chocolate at the village shop to sustain us for the last mile or two. Joys of youth.

Bags - I loved your typo! I haven't felt the need of one of these so far. My mother said that as a child I had hollow legs and luckily still have. That should be in the thread about things no-one knows about me - but you do now.

Talking about crouching in the bushes:-
Once after a business trip to London I was returning along the M5 when my engine cut out. It was a horrible dark November night. While waiting for the AA, I was taken short so decided to use the ditch by the side of the road.
Skirt hoiked up, knickers down, I squatted!
Only to find I was squatting on a clump of stinging nettles![ouch]thlblush

shysal Tue 22-Oct-13 12:07:22

Yes, Bags I did mean soaked to the skin! However there were not many lochs and no handy stream on Exmoor! I know what you mean about being past caring, we just laughed a lot, even though the two leaders couldn't agree on our position, adding hours to our walk.

flowers have a look at the Whiz Freedom too, I've tried both and find the Whiz much more comfortable to use and because it's flexible it's easier to carry around. Check out Amazon for details and reviews of both

yogagran Tue 22-Oct-13 12:14:57

Meant to add that it's brilliant for train and plane trips when the loos can get quite unpleasant [yuk emoticon]

Mishap Tue 22-Oct-13 15:22:16

I have not used mine very often, but when I have it has been invaluable. You have to get the technique right (and not have OH nagging you to hurry up) in order not to get your clothes wet!
