I have not used mine very often, but when I have it has been invaluable. You have to get the technique right (and not have OH nagging you to hurry up) in order not to get your clothes wet!

? I have been, in the Lake District. It did get to the point where walking through the end of a lake rather than round it didn't make any difference to how wet we were. We all had dry clothes, well wrapped in plastic bags, in our rucksacks but there was no point getting those out until we got to the youth hostel. It was quite liberating not to care two hoots about how wet we were. Even our money was wet. We had to peel our pound notes carefully out of our purses to buy chocolate at the village shop to sustain us for the last mile or two. Joys of youth.
