When should we start wearing poppies?

Granny23. I like the idea of the white peace poppy. I'll look out for them.

I agree a week before and not after but I also have no problem with those that feel they wish to wear theirs earlier. I bought mine yesterday, two regular for jacket and overcoat/raincoat and a small metal pin badge for tie. I will not wear them until next Saturday however. It seems every presenter on TV is wearing one now so it may be a directive from upon high perhaps to create awareness.

I think a week before 11 November and not after is quite sufficient. We can remember without parading around with poppies in our lapels.

Grannyactivist, thanks for the reminder about your loss. I wear a poppy from the time they go on sale. It's hard to believe it's almost 100 years since the first world war, and that those who fought in the 2nd are reducing in numbers. I despair of recent wars, but I wouldn't want those feelings to get in the way of supporting the brave young men and women involved in them.

I prefer to wear a white 'peace' poppy but always donate to the Poppy appeal too.

We have a lot of new Gransnetters, so I should explain that my son in law was killed in Afghanistan whilst serving with HM Forces. I buy my poppy and wear it from the day of the Poppy Appeal Launch. The RBL gave our daughter invaluable help when she needed it and their resources have been severely stretched by the aftermath of recent conflicts, so I'm happy to support their fundraising efforts.

I buy one. I wear it on November 11th. It really is that simple. As long as I have bought one, it is no-one else's business when I choose to wear it.

If we think why we wear poppies,the loss of so many lives, the suffering and the headache the whole idea that the last week in October seems a little to soon to wear poppies is quite simply crazy. What does it matter.
Wear your poppy with pride. If you lose it between now and Armistice day go and buy another.

I have been in the Metro centre today and have bought poppy's for DH and I from a lovely Lady, and we have worn them, but DH has lost his already.

Is it ever too early to support our service men and women who put their lives on the line for us every day.

I live in Colchester, a garrison town, and there have been high profile Poppy Appeal launch events this weekend. I am proud to wear my Poppy and if it gets tatty I buy another!

Possibly in the minds of the TV company concerned, though...

They were on sale in Sainsburys today. I think it is too early, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one but nearer the date of the Armistice Anniversary. I would either lose it or it would be so tatty after being moved from coat to coat,and I am not mean ,I give a meaningful amount of money.

I saw three people last Sunday on Countryfile wearing poppies. Two of them were presenters.
It's getting ridiculous.

I bought my RBL wristband from ebay last month, but not wearing it yet. I think I shall wait until November 1st.

I bought a metal pin one today as the seller was doing the rounds of the venue I was at. I thought it would be more secure (not wearing it yet) Then I realised as it is smaller than a 5p will people even notice I'm wearing it !!

I think 1st weekend November is soon enough.

I bought two yesterday just because I saw them. Lost them already.
