I thought it would be a good idea to open a thread where those of us who are upset by this news can comfort each other. Better to share thoughts here and leave the IMPORTANT thread for on-going efforts to find her.

I keep trying to think of possibilities but its hard without knowing what has been tried already.
I sort of assume that most countries would have the equivalent of our brilliant UK mountain rescue service, most of which are voluntary organisations with some charitable or grant support. But I understand that they don't.

Wheni'm Anno and others, you are doing so much good work to try to find Carol While most of us can just sit and worry. We do appreciate your efforts.
All I can do is send good thoughts your way, and have a wry smile about what Carol would say about the prayers. "Bring it on" is my response; its all good wishes, vibes or whatever made in whatever way an individual feels is important.

Wheni'm Anno and others, Do take care of yourselves. (((hugs)))

Carol and her family are on my mind a lot too. Just wish that the car could be found, that would at least give a good starting point.

Thinking of Carol/Greatnan all the time and hoping for a positive outcome, not only for her, but also for her large and clearly wonderful family.

I am so impressed by the way people have rallied round to do all they can - of no practical use myself, but just wanting to cheer on the effort from the sidelines.

Mumsnet have been fantastic with the threads and help they have given.

nightowl Sun 03-Nov-13 12:45:59

Just had a look on mumsnet, they are being absolutely brilliant, they all keep bumping their thread to keep it active. Someone said people from one of the expat forums will be going out today looking for Carol's car so lets send extra positive thoughts their way and hope for a breakthrough.

Thanks, Lona keep cheering each other on and help us keep morale up. Even a bit of appropriate humour can help. Carol is the first to see the funny side of things and would be busily making notes to tell us where we slipped up, got distracted or missed the bleeding obvious! I have her metaphorically on my shoulder when I'm writing, and re-write when I get a sense of her commenting 'well, you didn't put that very clearly!!' grin

Lona Sun 03-Nov-13 12:18:04

flowers for all of you.

Lona Sun 03-Nov-13 12:16:46

when You have been, and are doing such a great job, we can really only wait with heavy hearts now, and keep encouraging the locals who are looking for the car and Carol.

It can be very frustrating if you think of something and don't know whether or not it's been done. Speculation on threads that the public can view can be upsetting for family members & friends so if you have an idea & want to check it out in private I don't mind if you PM me. I'm not on the front line but am in the loop so have a good idea of what's been done or not & can check it out if not sure.

BUT if you want something you CAN do. please look back over previous threads for some ideas.

Marelli Sun 03-Nov-13 12:00:04

SirKevin, flowers. We can only do what we can and Carol's family will appreciate it all, however it is carried out.

SirKevin Sun 03-Nov-13 11:43:59

I am sorry to hear that one of our colleagues has vanished. I have not been to France for more than 40 years and have no friends or relatives there but can pray for her when I go to Mass today.

Grandmanorm Sun 03-Nov-13 11:34:47

It is a beautiful day here but I just can't settle. The first thing I did this morning was look on my iPhone to see if there was any news. I've said it before but I feel so so sad for Carol's family, it must feel like living in hell.

moomin Sun 03-Nov-13 11:24:30

Not surprised when - you have been and are doing so much in the quest to find Carol. Maybe place the Dettol air freshener out of reach tho' wink

I'm running out of things to think and say tbh. It is a depressing weekend for us all isn't it.

kittylester Sun 03-Nov-13 11:09:32

Bet you smell gorgeous anno! half-hearted grin

whenim64 Sun 03-Nov-13 10:35:48

Me too - lost the plot this morning when I had a shower and doused myself after with Dettol air freshener! hmm

nightowl Sun 03-Nov-13 10:33:48

I know what you mean Marelli, I've been on a couple of other threads this morning but my heart's not in it at the moment. It all feels unreal (if only it were).

Marelli Sun 03-Nov-13 10:25:20

I'm the same - I feel as if I've gone off the radar myself, because I can think of nothing to add that can help, and the other threads aren't attracting me much. I just keep sharing on Facebook - there's no more I can do. sad

glammanana Sun 03-Nov-13 10:16:49

nightowl same feeling here you are not alone I keep running different ideas through my head to try and come up with suggestions that may help.((hugs to everyone))

whenim64 Sun 03-Nov-13 10:09:02

nightowl supporting the people who are cracking on with it behind the scenes is helping to keep morale up. Thanks smile

nightowl Sun 03-Nov-13 10:05:20

Sorry I know people are doing a lot behind the scenes, I was just thinking aloud sad

nightowl Sun 03-Nov-13 09:53:26

Yes, still hoping and praying. Just feel so useless, knowing she's out there somewhere and there's nothing we can do to help the search.

Elegran Sun 03-Nov-13 09:53:08

Lynker you can also send private messages (if you can't quickly find a post by someone to click the purple bar) by clicking on "Inbox" at the top of the page, beside "logout". That takes you to a page where you can send and receive messages.

gracesmum Sun 03-Nov-13 09:52:56

Apologies for posting twice, no idea what happened- not-so smart phone I think confused

Aurelia Sun 03-Nov-13 09:52:08

Carole's story is front page news in the online Le Dauphine, the local paper for Haute-Savoie, so hopefully that will bring a positive result.
