I thought it would be a good idea to open a thread where those of us who are upset by this news can comfort each other. Better to share thoughts here and leave the IMPORTANT thread for on-going efforts to find her.

Yes, that's the same car, Lara

Hi Lara/Greatgranddaughter - friend Carol here. I'll check out the car as soon as I see the poster, as I stayed with Carol last month. Just been getting updates as I see Fiona has been busy overnight and has posted on Facebook.

Heavens only just found this out now, I do hope and pray she is OK. I didn't realise she had decided to leave GN what a shame, she is such a maverick I have missed her posts of late. It seems she is an experienced walker so lets hope she is merely taking shelter somewhere. Do come back Greatnan you are missed.

I hope there is good news today. Sending you strong vibes, Lara.

And you, greatnan, wherever you are xx

Just picked up on this worrying news. Her poor family in NZ must be going out of their minds and feeling totally helpless so far away. Let's hope the French police and the mountain rescue helicopters are doing everything they can. Praying for a happy outcome.

Thank you for your update to Gransnet when you must be so concerned and so occupied doing all you can to find Carol.

LizG Thu 31-Oct-13 07:01:30

Thank you so much GreatGranddaughter for taking time out to share this with us. Sending you all love and prayers at this very difficult time xxx

Good evening Lara (You are in NZ aren't you). It must be so difficult for you and your mum being so far away but you are doing a great job trying to locate her. Yes your nan made many friends and we all hope for positive news soon.

GreatGranddaughter Thu 31-Oct-13 06:51:34

Hello, I'm Carol's Granddaughter - Lara. We have made some progress overnight in terms of contacting locals, farmers, mountaineers, aviation groups & local news networks. We are expecting a call from the Missing Abroad charity who are currently liaising with the foreign office and putting pressure on French police to launch an official search. We will keep you updated as we know more.
In the meantime, I have created a poster portraying images of a car that I believe to be very similar to the one Nan owns and was last seen driving. We believe finding the car is going to be key in finding Nan, so please do all that you can to share these posters (French/English) that I have shared to Carol's Facebook page.
Also, having not seen this car in person, I am unsure if this is a completely accurate portrayal of the vehicle, therefore to anyone who has stayed with my Nan, please let me know if this is an accurate (enough) picture.
Thank you all for your kind words and support, I am blown away by the number of generous friends my Nan has. All your efforts have been tremendous and keep us hopeful!

I'm just logging in to see as well. Although any new anything over night is unlikely.

Stansgran Thu 31-Oct-13 05:51:27

I think you have the right mindset Envious.

kittylester Thu 31-Oct-13 05:38:44

What a disappointment to wake up to find there is still no news.

Enviousamerican Thu 31-Oct-13 05:12:39

Oh,my..! Just now finding out.I do hope this is just all a big mix up and she is sleeping in a nice hotel somewhere or a friends home her family isn't aware of.Not thinking anyone would be worried. Must stay positive that Greatnan is safe and sound!

I've just bumped up the post over at mumsnet, it does move quickly down the page. As a newbie to gransnet I'm very moved by all the good thoughts, concern and love shown for Greatnan and her family. Goodnight, I hope you all manage some sleep and may we hear good news tomorrow.

Flowerofthewest Thu 31-Oct-13 00:31:42

Thinking of Carol. Hoping for good news in morning. Sleep well all.

Anne58 Thu 31-Oct-13 00:18:09

Hell, just can't settle, keep coming back. I really will log off now, and spend some time sending requests to whichever supreme being that might listen.

Anne58 Thu 31-Oct-13 00:02:53

I must away to my bed, but will be thinking of Greatnan/Carol and her family and hoping and sending positive thoughts/prayers for good news tomorrow.
