I thought it would be a good idea to open a thread where those of us who are upset by this news can comfort each other. Better to share thoughts here and leave the IMPORTANT thread for on-going efforts to find her.

I've just returned from visiting relations at Bamburgh for the day. I was hoping and praying that by the time I managed to get online the news would be that if they hadn't at least found her, her car would have been found which would give some indication of the area where she went for a hike.

As each hour passes the concern naturally deepens. How horrendous for her family.

As someone said earlier, this has brought out all that is the best about Gransnet.

Safe return from your experience Greatnan

Like Flowerofthewest, I had an email from Carol's grandson-in-law yesterday evening. We all feel so useless, don't we - surely there'll be some word soon? Have done all the Facebook sharing I can. Hoping against hope that she's sheltering in one of the little huts that someone spoke of. I hope that wherever she is, that she's not afraid, and feels confident that she'll be found.

So shocked to read this. Praying that Greatnan is found safe and well - and for her worried family in NZ. Have shared the poster on my FB page.

It is strange that I was thinking about Greatnan this morning when I woke. I do hope there will be news soon. I wonder what the reaction has been in the estranged daughter's household. If Carol is rescued the outcome could be a blessing in disguise.

How awful for her family and friends. I do hope Greatnan is found soon. This just feels horrible.

The weather is fine and dry there at the moment, flower. That snow soon went and she posted photos she had taken of the lovely autumn colours last week, just before her laptop started really playing up. Thankfully, the search won't be hampered by snow.

Flowerofthewest Wed 30-Oct-13 16:22:09

I have been sharing on FB since her grandson-in-law messaged me yesterday. Very worried but do wonder whether she is taking refuge from bad weather. She did mention to me a few days ago that the snow was quite heavy. She may be somewhere where is no signal for phone.

There is a poster to share on Facebook with a picture of her. Please share or ask other FB members to share it if you are not a member yourself.

I agree that if she is found she will be dining out on story for years and probably slapping our wrists for making 'such a fuss' (not that we are)

I've just been over there. Will keep going back when I can, too.

glassortwo Wed 30-Oct-13 16:14:28

I have to go offline now so sorry cant keep bumping the thread on MN, can anyone keep it going, got to take the DGS for his swimming lesson.

glassortwo Wed 30-Oct-13 16:00:20

Its going to really hard to keep it in active, the smaller thread has already dropped off the page. So can you all keep bumping.

Eloethan Wed 30-Oct-13 15:56:43

I had noticed that Greatnan hadn't posted for a while but assumed that she was off visiting friends or relatives.

I do hope she is found soon - it must be terrible for her family.

glassortwo Wed 30-Oct-13 15:54:59

There are two threads running over there so I have bumped both.

Lona Wed 30-Oct-13 15:50:28

I've bumped it too, they are being very supportive on Mnet.

glassortwo Wed 30-Oct-13 15:38:04

I have posted on MN mice

MiceElf Wed 30-Oct-13 15:37:11

I've started a thread on Mumsnet. If anyone is a member please keep it busy and post there. It's under CHAT. Or join up as I've just done and post.

annodomini Wed 30-Oct-13 15:36:46

It's wonderful the way everyone is pulling out all the stops. Just when we think we have covered all possible bases, someone comes up with a new idea. Even the tiniest straw has to be grasped. And apologies for mixing my metaphors - can't get my head together today.

mrshat Wed 30-Oct-13 15:32:21

I'm speechless. Poor Greatnan. Such a worry for her family. Prayers being offered for her safe return. x

merlotgran Wed 30-Oct-13 15:26:17

I've only just come in and thought the thread title was a light hearted plea for greatnan to return to gransnet.

What worrying news. Three days is a long time and her poor family must be beside themselves.

Hoping for good news that greatnan is safe. XX

annodomini Wed 30-Oct-13 15:10:45

I did manage to distance myself from the computer, out to lunch (substantial!) with a good friend who was more than willing to listen to my concerns. It was a relief to talk to someone who isn't on Gransnet, though this is so valuable.

bluebell Wed 30-Oct-13 14:43:30

Just posting to keep the thread going as well as it is - I just can't find anything else to say that hasn't been said already - like many of you I'm sure I find myself just coming up with various explanations that all have a happy ending

Riverwalk Wed 30-Oct-13 14:38:54

I'm so shocked to hear of this.

Fingers crossed.

thatbags Wed 30-Oct-13 14:29:25

That's good to hear.

whenim64 Wed 30-Oct-13 14:28:17

Yes, Stansgran and she has been most helpful, putting a flea in the ear of the Mairie and offering to help with the search.

Stansgran Wed 30-Oct-13 14:23:58

I read that she was leaving Gransnet and had said she had never been happier in her life. I don't know why but I assumed that her DDwho she was estranged from had made contact.
Although she fell out with Granjura has anyone made contact with her as she may well know of places that they had explored and wished to return? Granjura lives in Lausanne . I am in Geneva at the moment and trying to post this on my Anglo info website but it is not recognizing my password. I think Granjura was on the same expat forum.

Penstemmon Wed 30-Oct-13 13:59:30

Let us hope the combined positive thinking of all of us atheists and the prayers of all believers will combine and she will be found soon.
