kitty I sent you [hugs] but 1000 messages later means that we need to open an extension.

It's been a strange day. Apart from worrying about the whereabouts of Greatnan I've not been very productive. The weather is behaving in an unsettled fashion. Inky clouds, Lashing rain. The promise of a brighter sky. Please keep coming to the kitchen. I would miss the company of you lot if you stayed away. smile

Oh, now I've remembered the incident with the dog, the crawling baby and the saucepans. My crawling son was playing on the rug in the kitchen, dog asleep in her basket, cupboard door open for baby to bang on pans with wooden spoons. I was still conscientiously sterilising things, and was busy at the sink. When the dog started thumping her tail I turned round to find baby wiping his hands on the dog and she was licking him and her hair, clearly enjoying herself.

MiL had helpfully cleared away the chip pan containing cooking oil into the saucepan cupboard without my knowledge, and baby had been dipping his hands in it, then wiping them on the dog. We were all covered in oil and dog hair! I didn't know who or what to wash first. I binned the chip pan!

Charleygirl. A 5 kilo bag of special diet food from the vet cost Mr soop £47. When Rory is really hungry he'll put himself out and eat it. On Saturday evenings, we usually have roast chicken. From the moment the bird is placed in the oven, Rory sits beside the cooker and waits...and waits...and waits. When the chicken is cooked, Rory has the first portion. He has to eat his meal in the utility room. Otherwise, he sits and stares at us with a funny glint in his eye, which can be most off putting.

Charleygirl Sat 09-Nov-13 13:10:27

Thank goodness Mr. Soop took pity on that poor deprived cat and gave him some chicken instead of expecting him to eat the grade above sawdust that was supposed to be lunch. His abundant fur is deceptive, poor darling.

soop Sat 09-Nov-13 13:03:53

grin gracesmum the sight of our wee man scudding across the kitchen floor on his elbows... like a commando on exercise, watching over his shoulder as he closed in on the cat bowl, is one of my most special memories.

gracesmum Sat 09-Nov-13 12:42:09

Whenim - you start to wonder don;t you why you bothered with sterilising/slippers in the house/wiping everything that doesn't move with anti bacterial wipes etc, when the toddler heads straight for the dog's/cat's bowl?!!

gracesmum Sat 09-Nov-13 12:39:45

I think Grandmanorm hasd a lot to answer for. The cardamom shorties are amazing and even I couldn't mess them up! Any more fattening healthy recipes like that one GMN please? A cup of coffee and a bikkie was just what I needed when got back from flu jab fun in the icy cold pouring rain!! Date slices would be so good at keeping one regular - you could practically ask for them on the NHS grin

soop Sat 09-Nov-13 12:31:00

Agus Yesterday, Mr soop said...'Tha an car again sean Feumaidh sinn car ur a lorg.' He didn't really. I found this in the Gaelic phrase book. There are accents that I haven't been able to find on my laptop. wink
The above should translate as 'Our car is old. We must find a new car.' grin

biker thank you for your kind comments about the photography. I enjoy time out with the camera. I agree that there is an element of frustration when attempting to add images to the album on GN. I've yet to discover a way to add script. confused

bags I hope that minibags is less distressed today. I haven't had a proper migraine. On a few occasions I've had the wiggly zig-zag thingy that blurs vision. Nothing worse.

when Once a wee one begins to crawl...a new chapter begins. Wee man insisted on trying to haul himself into the sooty fireplace. He was drawn to it like a magnet. Then, when he became more mobile, he headed for the cats' bowls and, if he reached one without being spotted, he'd pop a few cat biscuits into his mouth. After that, he would press his nose against the washing machine door and watch a full wash cycle. Another trick was to pull all the walking sticks and umbrellas on to the floor with an almighty clatter. That trick made him chuckle.

OGM The nice man from the car dealership phoned today with more info' for Mr soop. If I had my way, I would buy a canary yellow, Mini Cooper convertible. A lady nearby has one. It looks fab. Mr soop doesn't find them appealing. He's hoping to trade in for a comfortable/reliable car that will hopefully take us sightseeing around Scotland...which was the main reason for moving to Scotland all of ten years ago. Better late than never! wink

Lona I can well imagine how wonderful the concert was last evening. What did I watch? Elvis...a very special person whom I adored as a teenager. Even now, at the tender age of 72, he made me want to dance around the room.

Gracesmum Tike! grin When I'm next in Lochgilphead, I shall buy a batch of date slices. Not home-baked but exceptionally moreish.

World Tennis match televised from O2 Arena this afternoon. Such a treat. I've saved a flapjack for the event. grin

Sorry to hear about the migraine thatbags. 25 years ago Doc put me on HRT and later BP tablets. Haven't had migraine since . Still have to avoid mixing cheese and red wine. And don't overdo chocolate :-(

Lona Fri 08-Nov-13 23:02:19

Tegan I use Maxalt Melts, which disolve on the tongue and work within about half an hour, for me anyway.smile

soop just back from 'the Bruch', it was sublime!

Notso Fri 08-Nov-13 22:35:28

DD2 had migraines as a child for years. It wasn't until DH was diagnosed with diabetes and swapped 4 sugars in his tea shock for Hermaseetas, which DD2 tried, that we discovered her migraines were caused by artificial sweeteners.
Having fed her Angel Delight and Instant Whip for years when she was poorly, imagine how I felt. Nightmare.
I hope minibags benefits from her medication.

Oldgreymare Fri 08-Nov-13 22:22:53

Philomena great but set off the 'What might have been' worry beads. The Nun's made me so angry! Better not say any more in case YOU are off to see the film. (Take tissues!)
Galen tapas was local and very good.
Sorry to hear about Minibag's migraines, mine started at 35 and have been mostly diet related, I just have to avoid the triggers.
Funny, I could eat anything up until then, and would happily consume a whole Mars Bar on my way home from school, as a teenager, then chocolate became a major trigger sad
Soop glad you too had a nice day, car buying is so difficult these days, I am thinking of changing mine but am hanging on for a good deal!

mrshat Fri 08-Nov-13 20:23:29

Sorry to hear about minibags thatbags. I suffered dreadfully as a youngster from about 9 and right through to my mid 40's. I found that no oranges or orange juice and no cheese helped. Chocolate was also not the best but could be managed occasionally. As I grew older, alcohol was a big 'no no' but I gradually managed the odd vodka, whiskey and white wine and only within the last 10 years or so can drink red wine. I think it is trial and error really but wish you and mini all the best in sorting it out. cupcake for minibags grin

Agus Fri 08-Nov-13 20:10:07

And it is Soop smile

bikergran Fri 08-Nov-13 18:45:58

I keep meaning to say soop and I'm sure it has been said many times smile your photography is stunning! I have just browsed through your photos, they are truly inspring and professional and lovely to look at I wish we could easily name them, but I believe there is a "gliche" somewhere, as I posted in Tech the other day and others have had the same problem..great shame really as then we could put titles/name/places to our photos, although I know you can shuffle them about and try to name them but its a fag and it didn't work with some of mine anyway. tut!!! ok best go and see if the drying up fairies have been I think not! smile

gracesmum Fri 08-Nov-13 18:32:54

That's it - once they are mobile nothing and nowhere is safe!! (Lovely to see isn't it?) smile

whenim64 Fri 08-Nov-13 18:30:50

Lovely, thanks Gracesmum. Just the thing with a nice cup of tea and a sit down. Busy afternoon - grandson has started crawling - everything possible has been shifted and two safety gates have been installed at border control! grin

Tegan Fri 08-Nov-13 18:13:22

Lona; which tablets are you on? I keep hoping I'll find something as yet untried to help my sons girlfriend.

gracesmum Fri 08-Nov-13 18:08:08

Have made 36 cardamom shorties!! But if anybody asks I made thirty blush Yum, yum!

Marelli Fri 08-Nov-13 18:04:38

Poor wee Minibags. It's a bit of a frightening thing, having migraine so young. My DD suffered from them at the start of menstruation and then calmed a bit once she'd settled into her cycles, but they came back with a vengeance when she started using the Pill. Hope she feels much better soon, Bags.

whenim64 Fri 08-Nov-13 17:48:57

Oh, poor minibags. That happened to me as a 12 year old. I sat in the dark for a couple of days, with only aspirin to help with the pain, feeling ghastly. Never had any more after that, till in my 50s, just once. Did they mark the beginning and end of menstruation, or was that coincidence? I hope she feels better very soon.

soop Fri 08-Nov-13 16:51:55

bags Good! Have just read the update on minibags's visit to the GP.

soop Fri 08-Nov-13 16:50:51

Well...first things first...a lovely cup of coffee and a piece of Cardamon shortbread please Gracesmumand a catch up with you lot. Haven't you been busy, what with one thing and other. Lots to smile about but I'm sorry to hear that minibags is feeling so poorly. Four migraines in one day! shock I wish that I knew of a remedy for such an affliction. Perhaps the doctor will be more helpful.

Agus I've only just cottoned on to the fact that your user name is Gaelic for "and" - is that so? smile

Optician carried out further test for peripheral vision. One eye seemed to function well. The other seemed [to me] to be rather lethargic. We shall see once the data has been checked.
We did a number of jobs in and around Campbeltown. Lunch at the Royal was delicious. We each had a wee dram wink. After trailing around Tesco [the dratted so-called Seasonal decorations were such an eyesore], Mr soop asked if I'd mind visiting the local car dealer. Ian, the car dealer, is such a pleasant man. Not in the least bit smarmy or pushy. Our present car has served us well, but Mr soop thinks that now is the time to do a trade-in with a low mileage vehicle. We went for a test drive in a Fiat Bravo. It was both comfortable and easy to drive. Mr soop will "think about it" and reach a decision when he feels confident to do so.

Rory was not pleased that we had left only a sprinkling of high fibre, low calorie, vet biscuits for lunch. After much whinging, Mr soop gave him some chicken. wink

Lona there are many scams regarding details of pin numbers and the likes. I delete all that sort of trash.

JessM the story of your car having found a voice made me hoot with laughter.

OGM have a lovely afternoon. Tell us all about 'Philomena'...don't forget the Kleenex!

Lona I'm rarely envious...but...the Bruch violin concerto is a great favourite with us. Wonderful music to lift the spirits.

Nellie your exercise routine is vitally important. I want you recover ASAP.

I should be helping to put away the weekly shopping. Tomorrow's visit will be more leisurely. It's been lovely catching up with you. A day without Gransnet would be no fun whatsoever. smile moon

thatbags Fri 08-Nov-13 16:36:24

Doc has prescribed something she's to take for a couple of months. Then, if it works to plan, she won't get any migraines for several months or possibly longer. If they come back, she has another short course, etc. Worth a try...

Lona Fri 08-Nov-13 16:00:02

I've had a migraine today, but my tablets are amazingly efficient so I feel ok now.
bags some migraines are related to hormonal changes, which I expect minibags is having a lot of at her age.
I do hope the doc can help her as they are no fun at any age.

ffinnochio Fri 08-Nov-13 15:34:36

Hope minibags gets well very soon. So miserable for her.

As my Southern belle friend would say..... "y'all get well now, y'heah".
