Everyone at Gransnet is absolutely devastated by the news about Carol. She was a unique and inspiring member of our community and her wisdom, wit and tales of adventure will be missed more than we can say. Our hearts go out to her family - who she loved with such pride and passion.

As you know, they have asked that people don't contact them directly but instead leave tributes on the facebook page.

For those who are not on facebook (or who would prefer to add their feelings here), please do so here - we will post a link to this page on facebook so that your tributes will be seen by her family.

Strange that this thread should start again - I logged on this afternoon and really missed her, and then found this thread. Hope all her family are coping well.

You too Granjura.

I miss her.

I knew it was sometime this month Granjura and thought of Carol's family having to deal with this extra sadness. Just feel so much for them.

I thought of her yesterday as I was in a shop that had some lovely photos of the Alps. Good that she is with us in our minds. Her family will miss her.

Thinking about Carol today, and about her family, especially in NZ, as she should have arrived there to spend Christmas and a couple of months with them.

So sad and tragic that she is not with them- stay safe and take care all grannies out there.

I discovered Gransnet through Carol's tragic accident. I too live in the foothills of a wonderful range of mountains in France but I lacked her get-up-and-go, not to mention her free spirit. You died in the place you would have wished, doing what you most enjoyed, Carol. You will be missed, not only by your family but on the many forums you to which you contributed with your wit and wisdom.

Granjura my feeling are exactly the same as everyone else's on here flowers

flowers for Granjura Thank you for being so supportive. You will have been a great comfort to Carol's family. My mind is now at rest knowing that Carol died instantly, doing something she enjoyed, in a place that she loved. sunshine

Is there a Gransnet award for Granjura? Can she be made an honorary Gransnetter? Or be persuaded to rejoin? My condolences are on another thread for Carole's family.

I had been wondering about the circumstances of Carol's fall. It's a relief to know she would not have suffered.

laidback, although I am a teacher of Carol's generation, I am not in the same league. She was a one-off and we honour her as such. And thanks to Granjura for her help to the family.

Only knew Carol from her posts and the tales of Gransnetters who had met her. She sounded a feisty and independent lady and an inspiration to us younger grans. Sincere condolences to Carol' s family. At least her spirit can walk free in her beloved mountains.

I will miss greatnan's posts. She was larger than life. She reminded me of my own grandma...are all teachers of that generation the same? Opinionated, eloquent, honest, never afraid to tell it as it is. Refreshing! Challenging... Full of gumption and she made a difference to many lives. She cared. Said she had a dodgy sense of humour and then posted jokes galore. I wish I had known her personally. I think she would taught me a thing or two. My thoughts are with her family. I know how it feels to lose your conductor.X

Granjura you have been a tower of strength to Carol's family during this awful time. Thank you, as many others have said, for what you have done during the stressful time of not knowing and carrying on once the horror of the tragic accident came to light.

merlotgran Tue 12-Nov-13 22:37:26

Many thanks for keeping us updated, Granjura. A heartbreaking and tragic event for Carol's family but a relief to know she did not suffer.

Lona Tue 12-Nov-13 22:30:24

Granjura You are a true friend.

bikergran Tue 12-Nov-13 21:05:38

to know there was no suffering is some sort of relief..

LizG Tue 12-Nov-13 20:52:21

Thank you so much for this Granjura hearing this is a great relief. You have proved a special person to us all as well as to the family. Still can't believe all that has happened or that Carol will no longer be posting.

Oldgreymare Tue 12-Nov-13 20:48:06

.... and from me too Granjura thanks, it's helpful to know that Greatnan would not have suffered.

Sook Tue 12-Nov-13 20:37:29

It is such a relief to hear that Carol didn't suffer. Thank you for letting us know granjura

Agus Tue 12-Nov-13 20:23:04

granjura thank you so much for letting us know that Carol didn't suffer and also for taking the time to keep us updated during what must have been a very difficult time for you dealing with this heartbreaking situation.
