Everyone at Gransnet is absolutely devastated by the news about Carol. She was a unique and inspiring member of our community and her wisdom, wit and tales of adventure will be missed more than we can say. Our hearts go out to her family - who she loved with such pride and passion.

As you know, they have asked that people don't contact them directly but instead leave tributes on the facebook page.

For those who are not on facebook (or who would prefer to add their feelings here), please do so here - we will post a link to this page on facebook so that your tributes will be seen by her family.

Sincere thanks to granjura for the update, and for her support for Fiona and Carol's grandchildren. I find myself unable to think of Carol/Greatnan without the word 'inspirational' coming quickly to mind. It is such a relief to know the severity of her fall meant she would not have suffered in the long days until her body was found.

I agree. In some ways though I still can't believe it. Every day that she was missing I thought that if anyone can come through this, then Carol can.

Much love to all.

Thanks for your your lovely messages. Just come back from Habère where I stayed with Fiona and two grandsons. However awful, thank goodness Carol was found on the day of their arrival- and for the evidence that her fall was so great that she would not have suffered during the 10 days until she was found. So many lessons learnt, so much emotion. Fiona is now on her way back to NZ, feeling so sad, but also relieved in some ways.

Your messages of support have been so comforting to them all.

I hoped and prayed for good news for days, like everyone else, and even though I never knew Carol I realised how special and inspirational she was to so many people.
What happened is so devastating and I would again like to express my deepest sympathy towards all who mourn Carol, especially her family and all her friends here and in real life.

Carol, your example of living life to the full has touched me and I will always remember you.
Rest in peace flowers

got back onto here after being in bed with bronchitis and read about Carol. I never knew greatnan was called Carol. And all happened in a week. Her family must be devastated. My condolences to them all. They will miss her so much. We all will.

I have never met Carol but have had many interesting conversations with her on Gransnet so feel that I did "know" her a little. She always seemed to be such a stong lady who lived her life to the full and had done more in her life than many of us will ever do. My heart goes out to her dear family and friends. xx

I didn't know Carol personally but I knew of her through the French Entree forum.

I would just like to echo what has been said already that she clearly was an amazing lady to have inspired such an outpouring of wonderful tributes. I feel sure that Carol's family will indeed find great comfort in knowing in what high esteem Carol is clearly held by all those who knew her.

My sincere condolences.

I only 'knew' Carol online for a short time, but she was such a wonderful communicator that she felt like a good friend from tne very beginning. Her intrepid approach to life was such an inspiration to those of us of a more timid disposition. It was thanks to her that I braved learning to use a snorkel in the Mediterranean last year and I shall think of her every time I do so. She opened my eyes.
