Tributes for Carol

Like everyone else, I was upset to read the news of Carol's death. Like many others I hoped she would have found safety in a refuge and emerge to tell us about another great adventure.
My heart now goes out to her family. I think I have read that a new baby is expected in the spring. My first thought was of sadness for her daughter giving birth without without her mother at hand. But maybe some of Carol's spirit will be born in this baby. Probably sounds mad, but it gives me hope that her indomitable spirit will live on in 'person' in her family, and be a comfort to Heather and her family.

Greatnan was very supportive to me when, as a new Gransnetter, I started a thread about 'Walking a marathon in a day', last year. We had an email correspondence and found we shared several things, including some difficult experiences. She also reassured me when a few very negative posts appeared...
I shall never forget her support and understanding. RIP Carol x

I would like to add something to my earlier post.

Many people have said "Rest In Peace" , but if there is any sort of afterlife, you can bet your bottom dollar that Greatnan will not be resting! She will be out there, exploring her new surroundings and working out how it could be organised better!

I didn't know the lady but wish I had. She must have been a very special person to have this impact on those around her.

Carol was a brave, indomitable, principled wonderful woman. I only knew as an online presence but I really relished the discussions we had. What was humbling was the way in which, while holding steadfast to what she believed, she was able to modify her views and be gracious in saying so. Not many do that.

She loved so much, her mountains, the disadvantaged children she used to teach, and, above all, her beloved family.

Carol is no more, but her great spirit will live on in her family and in all those who have been touched by her presence. RIP

So desperately sorry to read this news, I have been out all day so have just caught up. It is very very sad and Greatnan will be so missed. Love and condolences to her family and friends. A lovely lady.

So sorry to hear the news. Sympathy and love to Carol's family and also to those on Gransnet who were close to her and did so much to help to find her.

I've just got home and wanted to add my condolences to the many here and on FB.

Greatnan will truly be missed both on Gransnet and by all whose lives she touched.

Very sad to read this news. I also hope her family will take some comfort from the fact that she died in her beloved surroundings and doing something she loved so much. I send them my heartfelt condolences.

Carol will be sadly missed. She truly was an inspirational woman, who refused to be defined by her age.

A truly beautiful graceful free spirit has taken to the skies to be free forever. We all loved dear Greatnan and will miss her so much.

I have to add my sadness at her untimely passing. Carol sadly was estranged from a daughter like myself totally different circumstances of course I will keep her thoughtful supportive p messages she was. Kind to me. I did not agree with her politics but that did not matter. R.i.p. Carol so sad for her family and all of us.

Just logged on and read the news we all had been dreading. Sincere condolences to all her family who must be comforted to know she died doing something she loved.

My sympathy and thoughts to Carol's family. I will miss her very varied posts, she was so full of wit and life and no doubt if you had asked her she would have told you that this was the way she would have wanted to go. Her friends did a wonderful job trying to find her and keeping us up to date and I would like to thank them personally for all they did.

So sad for all of you here, and her family. I'm fairly new so hadn't 'met' her, but it is obvious from reading the forums that she was a much-loved lady.

Can't add anything that hasn't been said already. I will miss her posts and her sharp intellect, wit and kindness. She was a special lady indeed and will be very much missed by all her friends, both cyber and physical.

Her family must be devastated, but I hope they will find comfort knowing how much they were loved by her and how much she meant to so many people.

This page alone is testament to how Carol, a truly Greatnan will live on in hearts and minds. I know I will often find myself having a 'What would Greatnan have said about that' moment.

Like Nellie, after a week of imagining the worst, I am relieved that she died instantly in a fall.

Terrible news. A personality as strong as hers will be sorely missed. It's especially sad as she was still planning a lively future - but I suppose she always would have been. My heartfelt sympathies to all her family.
