Dry and bright in East Sussex.
Great weather for Remembrance Sunday. My family all survived WWII but on the 4th January 1956 my RAF pilot brother was killed whilst flying.

Least we forget.

NfkDumpling Sun 10-Nov-13 07:50:03

Still raining here. Hopefully it'll clear soon - we're walking to the pub for lunch later. The family are all here to celebrate eldest daughter's 40th (born 11 minutes past 11 on 11/11/63 - and it was a Sunday). I'm feeling a bit elderly today - not helped by being a year older myself on Tuesday!

Have a lovely day everyone.

And sympathy and commiserations Brenda. I don't have a brother but I would imagine your loss must have been devastating. You must have been quite young. flowers

Gally Sun 10-Nov-13 08:13:39

The gritters were out last evening and now I know why! Very hard frost this morning. Icy cold but a beautiful sunny day. It will be very nippy at our village War Memorial Service. flowers

Good morning all.

Bright and sunny in North Leicestershire - hope it stays that way as we are going to do our first attempt at you know what shopping.

We will stop at 11.00 and remember the fallen especially the sister of one of DD2's friends. I'll also remember my dad who died on November 11th 1984 which was a Sunday.

(((hugs))) to everyone with special memories today. flowers

Beautiful, sharply cold day - like Gally's. Just counted 13 doves and a sparrow in the oak tree, facing the sun! Doves are glowing pink in the sunlight. Will be observing the 'silence' at 11am at the Antiques Fair in Edinburgh today. flowers

Good morning. Lovely weather in Somerset and a good forecast too. Sad day for you Brenda (((hugs)))

Charleygirl Sun 10-Nov-13 08:34:34

Good morning, a sunny but cold day here in NW London.

Galen Sun 10-Nov-13 08:50:34

Morning, off to shoot some arrows, then up to help DD with dgds

PRINTMISS Sun 10-Nov-13 08:51:22

Bright and cold on the south coast. A good day to remember.

It's a lovely day today, after such a wet start yesterday.

We enjoyed the racing, despite having damp trouser bottoms just from the short walk to the coach! The day stayed fine and we saw AP McCoy make a start towards his 5000 wins smile

A quiet day with roast pork and tarte tatin. Enjoy your days

Morning All, Bright and breezy here in Mid-Sussex.

Proud day for me with DS1 (newly inducted Beaver Leader) and GS1 and 2 (Beavers) in their 1st Remembrance Parade together, and my dear uncle (as always) marching at The Cenotaph in London.

Babysitting pupil and his brother later, then quiet dinner at home with the cats, and an early night ready for another week of school.

Have a good day all smile

Beautiful, frosty, bright and sunny day in north manchester/lancashire. Brenda - yes, lest we forget

annodomini Sun 10-Nov-13 09:43:20

The weather report says fog in Manchester and frost in Macclesfield. Here, between the two, we have a lovely clear, bright morning.

Stansgran Sun 10-Nov-13 09:43:28

Nice start to today.blue sky. Frost on the lawn .DGS is four today .

YaYaJen Sun 10-Nov-13 09:56:32

Yesterday at 6pm my car told me that there may be ice on the road, today it a beautiful blue clear sky here in North Yorkshire but there is still frost on the grass.

All of which has me thinking that I must get a pair of sensible boots for doing the school run as my feet freeze in wellies even with thermal socks on but when I go to look at boots a big part of me rejects anything even vaguely granny-ish. Choosing is made even harder as I have very thin legs and the range with narrow fit is very limited, any suggestions?

KatyK Sun 10-Nov-13 10:17:06

Lovely in Brum

Elegran Sun 10-Nov-13 10:17:07

And anyone with suggestions for boots for wide feet (EEEE) but average legs and ankles. I want ones with a long zip to let the feet in and then fit snug around the legs. Don't like Velcro flaps (I'm not at that stage yet) and pull-on ones are always too narrow at the instep to get my feet down, unless I were to do without socks , and grease the feet well first.

I have a lovely pair from DB shoes, which fit perfectly and are so comfortable, but they are starting to look disreputable, and not a single one of their current shoes and boots now have zips. Is that because the labour to put them in is too expensive?

Thistledoo Sun 10-Nov-13 10:35:17

Beautiful morning here on the Moray Firth. Was supposed to be -7 last night but thankfully the forecasters were wrong again, as there is no frost at all. Just made a very boozy trifle for our dinner this evening, YUM.
Off to the remembrance parade this afternoon, then to the cenotaph.
Lest we forget. Will think of you today Brenda.

annodomini Sun 10-Nov-13 10:59:49

YaYaJen, children's and teenagers' feet are so large nowadays that it's often worth looking in that section of a shoe shop for footwear. They usually do a good range of fittings and their boots are unlikely to be granny-ish - unless that's the current trend.

harrigran Sun 10-Nov-13 11:47:15

Good morning, frosty start here but the sun is shining and the temperature gradually rising. off to Derwentside where I know it will be at least one overcoat colder.

annodomini Sun 10-Nov-13 12:41:59

I was wrong - there was frost here overnight and it's lingering in the darker corners of the garden.
