Hi, my husband of 45 years has just cleared our savings account and jetted off to the USAshock to stay for 3 months with a lady he has met on line.
Leaving me stranded on my own in a new place where I literally have no friends or family. I have no way of visiting either of our sons. One lives abroad and the other one is fighting cancer and is too far from me to drive to, so I am on my own this Christmas literally, so if you fancy sharing a chat I promise I will be bright and cheery over a mince pie brewChristmas day, New Years Day and any other day for the foreseeable future especially if it snows, here I can be cut off from the outside world for 10 days at a time but at least I can build a snowman and Skype with my grand children and show him to them.smile I am trying to be brave, but a few kind words from you other grans and granddads would be much appreciated.sad

I've just ordered my caviar, Beluga, of course. Can't afford the better, but Beluga's good enough for me!
Must remember sour cream and lemons! Oh! Chopped onions! Can't eat the chopped eggs, the portions on th e QE Queens grill were miserly unless you asked for a large portion.! I must point out, I was on a free upgrade!tchsmile

You sound more positive after all the comments above (notice food and drink feature heavily in them!), good idea about the drinks and nibbles party, pity about the old grump next door.

You are more than welcome, fly from Bristol to Glasgow then to Benbecula

I have always wanted to go there, Is it as wonderful as it looks, what are the geysers like?

Galen Wed 11-Dec-13 23:15:35

Thanks, but smoked salmon is always in my freezer. I'd love to visit the Hebrides, I've never been that far north in Scotland. I have been to Iceland though, the country, not the store!

newist Wed 11-Dec-13 23:10:23

Galen today I have just bought 1kg of Hebridean hot smoked salmon, I could send you some, or you are more than welcome to come and share it

Galen Wed 11-Dec-13 23:00:56

Don't let your disappointment spoil the time they are with you. Yes, they may be being selfish (I couldn't possibly comment) but were you to let it show, it would probably hurry them out of the door. Give it a year or so and the DGDs will be asking "Why can't we stay longer at Granny's/I want to be with Granny/I want Granny to come here/ Granny is more fun etc" This self centredness of the younger generation frequently leaves me speechless but I know that the more I let it rankle, well, the more it hurts me! Enjoy C. Eve and morning then when they have gone - pour yourself a very large glass of champagne, put your feet up, eat the luxury nibbles you have stashed away in the fridge and watch something silly on TV before a luxurious bath and more shampoo in bed! Right now with DH huffing because I have been to see DGSs Nativity and didn't get home until 9.30 and hadn't told him I would be eating at DDs - I would happily leave him to fend for himself and join you, but I'll have forgiven him for being so childish by tomorrow. hmmMaybe.....

How disappointing, Galen. Having been on the receiving end of similar thoughtlessness in the past I know how hurtful it can be. I hope your Christmas turns out better than you are expecting.

Galen Wed 11-Dec-13 22:38:08

Xmas dinner will only be a snack for them anyway as they want the first Xmas dinner In Their new home with the their children. The youngest is only 6/52 old!
It's understandable I suppose!

Galen Wed 11-Dec-13 22:35:42

Oh I will! I was with them all afternoon today to help dd.
I've bought a 7'7"" Xmas tree. Twinkly lights outside!
I've just decided to see if I can organise a 'drinks and nibbles' for the neighbours. Will ring round tomorrow to see who is interested ( this includes old grump next door, but it's Xmas)

merlotgran Wed 11-Dec-13 22:31:00

Words fail me, Galen

You have two options, cook Christmas Dinner verrrrrry sloooooowly so they have to stay longer than planned or slap a quick snack on the table saying, 'How do you like your Christmas sandwiches?'

Sorry to be flippant but I would try and enjoy every bit of time you have with the DGC. They always remember the fun.

newist Wed 11-Dec-13 22:28:30

sorry Galen blush

newist Wed 11-Dec-13 22:24:29

Galin you are more than welcome to come to the Hebrides for Christmas

Galen Wed 11-Dec-13 22:19:57

Gee thanks!

Nonu Wed 11-Dec-13 22:17:49

Well one hing galen Honey , you know what to do next year .
Go a cruise and let the devil take the hindmost !
(((a HUG & A X TO YOU )))

Galen Wed 11-Dec-13 22:15:09

I'll survive. I'll probably go back to bed after they've left at one, then just stay there until Xmas is over.
Next year, I'm going on a cruise again definitely.
I only cancelled because I thought they thought I ought to be there at Xmas for the DGC .
To be fair, I had to have the central heating done as well and cancelling the cruise paid for that. (I hope) I get the bill tomorrow!

Aka Wed 11-Dec-13 22:07:01

Galen I'm worried about you.

Ana Wed 11-Dec-13 22:00:53

Sorry, Galen, I was being insensitive and doing that thing I hate others doing, i.e. saying "look on the bright side". Of course it's not an ideal situation and I'm sorry you feel so down about it. sad

Galen Wed 11-Dec-13 21:49:31

Less than 24 hours. The rest of the time, I don't see a soul.
I can understand why suicides happen at Xmas.

Ana Wed 11-Dec-13 21:41:07

But at least you'll have them for most of Christmas, Galen - you'll probably be exhausted by the time they leave! tchsmile

Aka Wed 11-Dec-13 21:36:29

Galen sad for you.

Galen Wed 11-Dec-13 21:34:13

I'm feeling very down as I thought they were going to spend Xmas eve and day with me!
Now I find out they're coming late in the afternoon on Xmas eve, want an early Xmas lunch then going.
Wish now, I hadn't cancelled my cruise!

cactus60 Wed 11-Dec-13 19:09:38

Hi withany, sorry to hear of your predicament, I have no words for your ex that they would allow me to print. you are better off alone but I know it is hard. will talk to you at xmas xx

gillybob Wed 11-Dec-13 17:54:02

Oooops sorry folks I have aged my poor grandma . Should have said she is 98 next birthday not "this year" she would be horrified! grin
