Today while I was rummaging through Christmas stuff I found my mothers headscarf. Taken off the coat hanger not long after she died in 1979. I took it because it smelt of her. Of course her smell has gone now. It just smells musty. But it made me think of how time has flown. She died when her first grandchild, my first was a baby. He's now married with 4 children. She would have made a lovely nanna but a horrible MiL and she wouldn't have given a jot. I remember how much she loved my son but had so little time with him. Whereas I have 8 grandchildren the oldest 18 this year and so will be well remembered
