My senior granddaughter gladdens my heart. She has a 'difficult' mother and I was always her sanctuary while she was growing up. Now she is a lovely young woman and it would gladden my heart even more if she got the kind of job she is aiming for.

Those boys will be a credit to you no matter where they go or what they do with their lives. I think a lot of their changed attitude is probably down to following your shining example.

Trouble is, so many things going on in the world does the exact opposite of gladdening your heart. sad

For me any gladdening still comes from within the family. Especially two certain young fellers. tchsmile

What you are doing for your two boys is a credit to you grannya. Fantastic. x

I had a long phone call today from a young man (now 37) who was my daughter's best friend from the age of 7. His mum got cancer when he was still at school so he ended up spending a lot of time with us and after his mum died during his time at university I became his 'mother figure'. He phoned up for advice and we had a lovely long chat. He's got two gorgeous little boys and baby number three is due any day, his wife is a really beautiful person and they're very happy together. Just hearing of his contentment gladdened my heart today. tchsmile

What would gladden my heart would be to see my two estranged grandchildren again. We haven't seen them for seven years and they only live in the next town. sad

As ariadne said, it gladdens my heart too. I always told my children that I would be proudest of them if they grew up to be nice, kind people. Whenever they do something special in that line I feel so happy. I think, it shows they were listening to me at least some of the time!

Lovely that it's a long term stay, ga. You will always be a part of their lives no matter what they do in the future.

Fine looking lads, GA.

I've added a photo of the boys to my pictures in case anyone's interested. The bigger boy is a year younger than his brother.

How proud you must be!

Merlot I've promised the boys they can stay until they've completed their schooling so they'll definitely be here until the end of the summer term 2014. I'm not sure what will happen then, but I have a very strong feeling they won't want to leave. hmm

I agree with Ariadne.

And that has gladdened my heart, ga! Thank you.

ffinnochio Wed 04-Dec-13 21:19:03

So good to hear that, ga.

merlotgran Wed 04-Dec-13 21:14:32

He sounds a lovely young man, ga. How long will he be staying?

whenim64 Wed 04-Dec-13 21:12:57

I've just had a very long one to one conversation with my seventeen year old Afghan foster son, which gladdened my heart. He described how, when he lived in Afghanistan, he cared only about himself and his family and that his attitude then was typical of the culture. He explained that since coming to England and seeing and experiencing for himself how much people care about each other he has changed and is now beginning to care for others in a way he never has before. He said, "inside myself I have changed and now I am starting to care about other people". smile Gave me a warm fuzzy moment.
