What changes would you make?

Me, I would return all soaps to their one slot per week and then only for half an hour each one.
Bring back proper comedy.

Put a limit on how many times in the year a film can be repeated on all terrestrial channels! X

Brendawymms Thu 26-Dec-13 10:19:23

Yes I agree. Why do we need Eastenders in the prime slot every night this week?

Grandmanorm Thu 26-Dec-13 10:29:15

I would stop all the dreadful advertisements for Eastenders. I don't watch it, but the violence shown in the advertisements is a disgrace. Therefore I agree withBrendawymms

Perhaps a lot less reality (?) TV too!

Charleygirl Thu 26-Dec-13 11:46:16

One week I counted something like 70+ cookery programmes- slight overkill.

I feel that we get repeats of rubbish programmes and no repeats of programmes that I happen to have missed, mainly drama.

There are too many soaps and reality programmes. Also too many repeats throughout the year of films on terrestial channels.

I felt that I had seen almost all of Downton before it was broadcast because of the number of adverts for the programme. I like to be surprised, not informed of the entire plot.

I would stop the dreadful reality shows like ' I'm a celebrity', tedious z- lister drivel.

I would stop all the Corrie spoilers telling me what happens in the week to come. I'd bring back afternoon drama theatre, limit the cookery shows and reality TV. There would be many more series like Broadchurch, film repeats banished to a dedicated channel, an increase in programmes like HIGNFY and plenty of good comedy, not a gang of comics competing with each other to be as offensive as they can, spouting in-jokes about each other like they did on the recent Comedy Awards - what a disaster that show was.

I agree, when, and I'd also confine all sport to its own dedicated channel.

I would ensure that news coverage was improved.

Our news coverage is simply lazy, boring and the presenters are rude and not very knowledgeable. There are obvious exceptions such as Andrew Neil, Andrew Marr etc.

Stations such as Aljazeera are more open to world news and very often I see a news report on our news that has been covered days before when it was happening on Aljazeera. Why? I don't know. That it why I say our news coverage is lazy. We get the same old rubbish hour after hour of inane tripe. I think the BBC is quite possibly the worst for interviewing technique and given the huge number of reporters and journalists it employs we, the licence fee payer should get a far better service.

I do think however that with the advent of free view and DVDs there is a good range of shows, I don't think people use them enough. I like the American shows very much and I know there are people who never even give them a try. I have often been pleasently surprised when I have given a program a shot I didn't think I would enjoy.

I would love to get shot of adverts but they are the nature of the beast aren't they. I do wish the BBC would be less partisan in it's political stance and staff employment. I do hope for more balanced news in the future but I won't hold my breath. As we all have to pay for the bloated BBC I think it should be an unbiased service that is for all subscribers.

Have to agree with everything that has been said so far. I can't understand the ads for the soaps - I don't watch them so don't want to know and the people who do watch them don't want to know in advance either! "Reality" shows should be stopped altogether it is cheap and uninspired programming. "Comedians" who think swearing and being offensive is clever should be consigned to a dedicated channel. I caught the end of the Michael MacIntyre show last night, now he was really funny without being coarse. More dramas and less cooking and house makeover/property programmes.

jinglbellrocks Thu 26-Dec-13 13:15:53

They must cater for everyone though. Can't be easy. 'enders was a let down last night. Made a mockery of giving it prime time.

LizG Thu 26-Dec-13 14:00:33

I think we should get GNetters to organise the TV channels, it would be much more interesting and enjoyable to watch if you did tchsmile

ginny Thu 26-Dec-13 14:17:03

I would ban 'Top Gear' and anything else that had Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond in it.

rockgran Thu 26-Dec-13 14:31:10

I don't thnk I'd be much good as a I don't watch soaps, sport, reality tv or the news....and I hate adverts. Even on BBC there are too many adverts for other programmes. I,m fed up with cookery, makeovers and antiques and anything that contains the word "celebrity". Not much left really! I find everything too graphically violent so I catch up with the world on the radio or online. That way I can control what I see. I do like a good drama and loved "last tango in Halifax" and "the Paradise". I also like some quizzes. Boring? Moi?
