roses, how refreshing to hear of a small child who learns to say 'yes' before she learns to say 'no'.

It is a hoglet (baby hedgehog) newist willy is where you would expect his belly button to be. He/she is hedgehog coloured!? confused He was Hogmannay then Clive Hogmannay, I then made the mistake of calling him Colin on Facebook and there is a Colin Sawford on facebook so my post added ~Sawford to the mix, He was then Colin Hogmannay Sawford. But realising my mistake I renamed him Clive Hogmannay Sawford. When he went to the hedgehog hospital they renamed him/her Orange to identify him/her from all of the other poorly hoglets named Purple 1 and Purple 2, Blue, Red and any other colour you care to name.

Hope this is clear. grin

Of course if you wanted to keep an Old English link, you could call him Dodger.

I am so confused. is this little creature, a boy or a girl? what colour is it, he or she? what is its, her or his name? and just out of interest, where would a willy be placed confused

I would if he allowed me to look!!!! shock The thing is, it is important in the breeding season as if an injured hedgehog is found then it is ok to keep it overnight if it has the bellybutton/penis thingy but if not it is a female and may be lactating. The way to 'open the hog up ' is to either wait for it to start unfurling and standing up as if to make a break for it then to gently press on its back (with gardening gloves) and lift it from both ends to check the appropriate bits. OR as our hedgehog man told us. Fill a bowl with warmish water (body temperature) and put the hedgehog into it. He doesn't know that he can swim but he can (the hedgehog not the hedgehog man) then when he starts to do the butterfly stroke or whatever lift him out and check his 'bellybutton' I am a mine of useless information.

Well, you wouldn't would you.

Flowerofthewest Wed 22-Jan-14 15:17:00

Oh! he IS Orange now due to him being in hospital. He may be a she didn't have time to open him up to see if his penis was where his belly button should be.

Anne58 Tue 21-Jan-14 22:25:38

So why is he now Clive? It was bad enough for the little chap to referred to as Orange, he will be utterly confused at this rate!

By the way, are we sure is is a boy hoglet? if it's a girl will it then be a hoglette?

Flowerofthewest Tue 21-Jan-14 21:26:09

phoenix because I mistakenly called him Colin and then couldn't get the name out of my head.

Anne58 Tue 21-Jan-14 21:07:43

Lovely!

Why had I got it into my head that the hoglet was called Colin? confused

This little one's speech has really taken off since Christmas. He never stops and always has an answer and is always right.

He is adorable, when his mummy went to the kitchen to make up the baby's rice and mango (posh) he rushed to get the bouncy chair to set up for her. She later sat the baby (6 months soon) on the floor and he surrounded her with cushions. I am so proud of him although I have 11 GC I do have a special place in my heart for him and his sister, maybe because I assisted at their births, who knows.

I like it too; we are never too old for chocolate spread wiv custs cut off. It's nice when you can have little chats with toddlers, my youngest DGS is 20 months and all he says so far is 'yes!' He answers all questions with a large enthusiastic YES!

Flowerofthewest Tue 21-Jan-14 20:23:39

Vegetarian rosesarered He does prefer "Chocolate spread wiv custs off and cut into little pieces pease gama"

We have spoken to the lovely man who took Clive the Hedgehog in to nurse him back to health. He says that he had dropped to only 100g from 250g and though he was going to lose him. He decided that he probably had lung worm and treated him for this plus saline. He is now 400g and on the road to recovery. My little grandson (3yrs) is worried that when Clive comes back to our garden he may climb the fence and hurt himself and have to go back to 'hospital' We had an extensive 1/2 hour conversation today about the poorly hedgehog. He was almost manic in his concern, bless him. "How big is he? how small was he? As small as a mouse? or is he now as big as that namama (banana)". "Yes - he is as big as a banana!!". This went on and on but was such fun. " What will he eat in your garden ganma?" " 'Slugs and snails'" "But not big slugs and snails have shells on they would crunch and not nice" "no only small snails" "Me no like snails to eat, me like humous and chocolate"

Well thank goodness for that.
