I'm not a bad cook. I wouldn't win any competitions. I think my generation of family cooks are far more adventurous than our own mothers. A few nights ago I cooked risotto. I often cook Delia's Belgium casserole. I use red peppers, celeriac, spices and wine. I often try my hand at new recipes. My own mother would never had the option of using some of these ingredients and if she did she wouldn't have. When I was a teenager it was my job to cook the dinner. I would often cook a stew. I remember it as being delicious. We had no recipe books. I put meat and 'English'root veg carrots, potatoes, parsnips and onions poured stock cubes dissolved over it salt and pepper. Then boiled it. So tonight that's what I'm doing. The only difference is i'v browned the meat and ingredients. When it's cooked depending if it's stodgy or wet I will eat the Liverpudlian way with red cabbage or beet root. Bugger being sophisticated ! (Joke) And then I might, just might have a little cry. Just because I want to.
