..anyone else awake??

Grrrrrrr awake at 4 again. Pain in my side is moderately better but uncomfortable, enough to stop me going back to sleep. My mind is whirling like a tape recorder I'm amazed it doesn't explode, my husband says it's a female thing. On a lighter note my granddaughter who 7 (lovely age for a little girl) is asleep upstairs. We had a lovely day, cinema, buying girly nick nacks. Been treated to dancing exhibition. Had to watch 'Britains got talent' because she loves it. My husbands had his nails painted pink. Going to find somthing to watch on i player now. Hope the rest of you night owls have had a better night, thinking especially of harrigran' hope all is going well.

I'm waiting to get some sleep, again. Feel twitchy again so I won't sleep until it passes. I did try earlier in the chair but I wanted to watch the football and as it went into extra time, I had to stay half conscious. Still, we won!

jog How are things now? Is your mum any better? Have you managed to get some rest?

I've just ordered some iron tonic, see if that helps with the sleeping. Due to the biopsy I had, I have been bleeding for nearly three weeks now so I am hoping the tonic will help.

DS's 19th birthday today (Saturday) but he blew a fuse this morning, stormed off to his mates and has stayed out as they had planned a gaming night. Good. Peace and quiet after 19 blooming years!

So good to hear you got your mum settled Jogginggirl. I am hoping you are managing to get some rest too.

NanKate so pleased for you that you managed to get a good nights sleep. Sleep never seems to matter when we are fit but (I know, I've been there) it starts to become an obsession when we can't get it; lovely when we do though. Fingers crossed that this continues.

You poor thing Jogginggirl it brings back sitting with my sister for hours in A and E, it is so tiring and the waiting seems endless. What a wonderful daughter you are keeping such a watchful eye on your mum, you have my respect

I am lucky to have had had the first good night's sleep in ages and my aches and pains seem less, phew I am relieved.

Thanks ruby - yes, reported but not taken any further as it was too stressful for my mum They have a nice comfy cushion in the visitor chair and mum is finally sleeping - so all is well for now xx

That is awful jog, that certainly shouldn't have happened, I hope you reported him. Your poor mum. I bet you're shattered though, staying up all the time. Still, we do it, don't we. Take care, I hope you can nod off in a chair then and the staff bring you refreshments. X

I won't be leaving her anytime soon ruby - the last time I left her in hospital to rush home for clean clothes etc for her - I returned to find that she had suffered a stroke after being roughly handled by a male nurse - it was all seen by other patients who told me! It was awful ... So I'm with her all the way for the time being xx

Aw, thank you Jog It's wierd in a hospital setting isn't it, it never sleeps. There is always someone on the go and has the feeling of never ending toing and froing. I hope your mum gets settled soon. The commotion wont be helping her breathing. And when she is settled, then you can go home and get some kip hopefully. X

The problem is two differing opinions - we are now on our way to another ward. Mums breathing is very bad and causing concern... She has interstitial lung disease along with a shadow on her lung. All complicated by dementia ..... Thanks for the company ladies... The tea is very welcome GG - ruby - that's an inspired present - on your part anyway ?? Hope you enjoyed the haribos ?? Aw jogginggirl I really feel for you. It's a long time you have been sitting around waiting for your mum to get settled on a ward. Is she really poorly? I'll have a cuppa with you anytime.

I'm still up as had a bad day, went to see the vicar who did my dad's funeral for some guidance and reassurance, she is lovely. But it took it out of me and I ended up with a sore chest so had to rest up. Hence up now. It is the early hours of my DS's 19th birthday, and normally we wish each other Happy Birthday at midnight but because I wouldn't give him my packet of Haribos he has stormed off like some petulant toddler. Ah well, his present for today is a ticket to a rock festival next month. Six glorious days of peace and quiet, worth it I think, don't you?

I hope they have good tea jogginggirl - you deserve it and I hope your mum's tests give you helpful information.

Off to bed now but will be thinking of you. Take care of yourself as well as your mum

Currently sitting in a hospital chair watching my mum try to sleep .... We have been here since 11am Friday morning - after initial assessment - we are now waiting to be moved on to a medical ward for more tests etc... I think it's going to be a long, sleepless night .... Cuppa anyone

harrigran I hope the nice long sleeps continue

I slept from 00.30 until 5.40, I think that is the best I have done lately. The two weeks off the chemo allowed my feet to heal so I don't have the soreness and having to keep them on cool blocks.

I slept till 6, that's very good for me. Done a few jobs and back in bed with cuppa.
Sorry we were no company Boheminan and enjoy your afternoon NanKate.
Long drive from Lancashire to Kent for us today, it's a friend 's significant birthday. Love her hate the drive.

Were the birds a lovely sight Bohemian ? We got up early and saw some lovely blue tits fledge from a box in our garden one year. Two of the babies missed the tree branch they were aiming for a fell on the ground. DH picked them up placed them on a branch and later on we saw their mum feeding them all. Isn't nature wonderful ?

You beat me to it this morning Chelseababy I slept in till 6.07. However I was up at 3.00 a.m. glugging milk and a biccy so I could have a painkiller.

After breakfast I shall have a short walk, then go back to bed for an hour to prepare myself for an afternoon out. I am determined to go.

sleep last night. Out for a curry with a friend then watched a bit of tv. Just got my tea, put washing machine on and back in bed. Hope you got some sleep boheminan?

Hello early nighters. I'm hoping to last out until 11.00pm before going to bed. I got a bird station recently and am excited enough to want to be up really early to see what birds are around at dawn - apart from the wood pigeon that seems to have taken it over

How hard our parents worked Nana3 with none of this ME Time a lot of parents expect today.

My Mum would have laid the fire, hoovered and dusted, a daily ritual, sometimes pegged out washing, put breakfast cereals and milk in a basket ready for my brother and I to take to a neighbour who looked after us before and after school. She left for the bus at 6.50 am and was at work in the weaving shed for 7.30am. She liked her job by the way. She made sure dad was up before she left. He cycled to work and was always on the last minute.

It's lovely at this time of morning Nana3 no one about, the birds all busy preparing for or feeding their babies and the sun shining.

I wonder what our mums would have done all those years ago if they too were up so early. Maybe cleaning out the ashes and preparing a fire, making some pastry and putting it on the cold slab in the pantry for later use. Writing their shopping list.

I'm not sure what the radio programmes started in the 1950s, they certainly didn't have 24 hour coverage.
