Just had a power cut; thankfully only lasted 5 minutes.

whenim64 Wed 12-Feb-14 18:36:50

Same here, Tegan. Ancient oak trees and others in the woodland, noticeably swaying. The two at the end of my front garden are 20 feet away (gulp)! I'm sleeping in my back bedroom tonight if it hasn't died down......not that another 12 feet would make one iota of difference if a tree came down.

We've been downgraded to Amber alert, so goodness knows what it's like for those of you in Red? Hope you're all ok.

Tegan Wed 12-Feb-14 18:24:08

There's a huge pine tree several feet away from my house; I can't see it swaying in the wind, thankfully. Most of the branches are on my side of the three so, if it did come down it would crash right through my roof. Being a conservation area no one will fell it. Farmer says 'it will outlive me'. I point out that, if it doesn't I won't know much about it sad. Will just carry on pretending ostrich like that it's not there.

Jess Take care! Trains are not running through Staffordshire at present. It's bad here in Cheshire.

It all sounds dreadful. My thoughts are with you all.

How are district nurses getting through or are neighbours rallying to administer injections - medications etc?

As a former DN sister I am very aware of necessary drugs that require to be administered for relief of pain etc.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 12-Feb-14 16:54:19

Cocked that up didn't I! pinto

(What you think you see is not always what is)

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 12-Feb-14 16:52:22

Hello *pinto". Excuse the Specsavers needing ones. hmm

Ariadne Wed 12-Feb-14 16:27:29

roses yes, you have to use the old bridge but the roads are sold with traffic back towards Instow. However, Theseus used the Old Barnstaple road, cut through East the Water and was terribly pleased with himself for avoiding it all!

whenim64 Wed 12-Feb-14 16:03:14

It's quite wild round here. Great big oak trees surround my little house and I can hear them creaking. I saw the park workmen working their way through the surrounding woods an hour ago. We usually see the odd tree come down in weather like this.

oo-er. Really blowing now even though we are in a sheltered spot. 105 mph recorded on the Lleyn Peninsula. A red warning really means it.
University closed, schools closed, Britannia bridge closed to lorries, trains cancelled and very little traffic passing us. I guess lots of businesses have sent staff home as well.
Poor old Aberystwyth is going to get another hammering.

Aka Wed 12-Feb-14 14:26:48

Dreading the school run.

Welcome Pinot

Brendawymms Wed 12-Feb-14 14:05:22

Everyone keep SAFE.

JessM Wed 12-Feb-14 13:47:43

Red wind warning this afternoon here in NW Wales. 100 mph gusts due. Staying indoors.

pintogrigio Wed 12-Feb-14 13:38:17

Yes freshly minted smile

grannyactivist Wed 12-Feb-14 13:36:11

Hi pinot - are you new on here? If so, welcome to Gransnet. smile

Brendawymms Wed 12-Feb-14 13:31:18

Weather just arrived here in East Sussex. It's dreadful. My daughter in red weather area of north Wales.

pintogrigio Wed 12-Feb-14 13:26:45

Can I just say hi smile

Aka Wed 12-Feb-14 13:11:22

grin

rosesarered Wed 12-Feb-14 13:09:54

We all sound like the 'three little pigs!' smile Stay safe everyone.

Aka Wed 12-Feb-14 13:04:56

I think my house is going to be blown down. It's very frightening here.

12Michael Wed 12-Feb-14 12:49:40

Its throwing down here in Brackley strong south westerly wind whilst out earlier.
Mick

rosesarered Wed 12-Feb-14 12:27:33

Ariadne I suppose it's the height of the new bridge? Use the old bridge!I bet it's windy there enough to blow you off the quayside!Poor ducks and seagulls.
Rain and windy here in Thames Valley as well, and going to get worse as the day goes on.Am staying in, warm and dry.

Aka Wed 12-Feb-14 12:09:39

Gales arrived here too, rain coming down almost horizontally.

grannyactivist Wed 12-Feb-14 12:08:49

Yes, gales here in East Devon too - it's quite a spectacle. I was going to take my mother in law to the hospital this afternoon, but father in law has forbidden me. He has a camper van that he'll take her in as if there are problems (he mentioned floods, landslides, fallen trees) he says he can always sit tight and make a cup of tea. grin

Ariadne Wed 12-Feb-14 12:06:31

And the new bridge is shut! (Main way out of Bideford) AND the galles are driving the rain horizontally. I am going nowhere today.
