I think it started when Absent pointed out to TOOBIGFORTHEIRBOOTS that her see name, being in capitals, sounded like she was shouting at us!

Anyone else as bewildered by all this as I am? Did I miss something yet again?

Aka, the name was a ref to the bully and yes, I did have a wee laugh at the irony of it afterwards.

Jingle, toobig reminds me of a time in Subway when the server asked me if I wanted 6 inches or 8 inches. I wont say what my innocent reply was but people burst out laughing and I didn't understand till I got home and my daughter explained to me what I had actually implied by my reply.

Penstemmon understand my point exactly when it comes to people who -
use ' get out' strategies and fall back on, sometimes unconnected, personal incidents to try to make others feel a bit guilty for posting a challenge or opposing views!

Its the Gransnet equivalent of people playing the 'race card', its what my bully did and was sadly nothing to do with the kind and very real possible scenario suggested by Soutra earlier on.

Gransnet is what people have made it, but sadly there are more people popping in for a few days then moving on than there are those who stay. Perhaps those who have made Gransnet the place it now is should be looking around the forum and seeing what potential members see.

I take your point Penstemmon but feel that harking back to an unknown GNetter some (unspecified) time ago is like those awful arguments where someone drags up something you are supposed to have said YEARS ago (and of which you may have no recollection) . I don't believe in harbouring grudges and if I have a problem with somebody or what somebody has said I would much rather have it out in the open at the time. If somebody "uses" a personal situation/poorly partner/gammy leg or whatever to get out of a situation - agreed - it is underhand and a bit like giving someone a particularly hideous crocheted "crinoline lady toilet-roll cosy" and as their features congeal in disgust adding "made by the handicapped". That is called Gamesmanship.

And your point is what? I am not upset by ripostes jingle it is part of the purpose of debates and discussions to exchange views.
I am not playing a victim or suggesting that people are being unfair to me. Soutra was suggesting that those things do not happen. I have seen them happen and was simply reinforcing that point. Nothing sinister, cliquey or 'hole in the wall'.. (the ATM?)

Just to clear things up in case of any misunderstanding, I was responding to flea but I can see now, time wise it may look as if I was responding to TOO BIG.
