The problem with that very realistic post is the area I live in is certainly not affluent and we don't live in the sticks. We do live fairly close to an oil refinery. 
I guess I am saying that I wish the supermarkets would treat all of their customers the same and price goods accordingly so that a customer in one shop is not paying more than a customer in another shop if the supermarket respects the loyalty of all it's customers, whether that be buying bread, milk, petrol or another.
You have made a very valid point though.
