70th birthday

I'm finding 65 quite a leap from 64!

I've still got 2 years to go before my 70th but I always though 50 was a particularly depressing age. It just sounded really dreary - not old enough to be aging disgracefully!

nansypansy I agree that 70 just seems a leap beyond the 60's[when we can kid ourselves we are still middle aged.] However, 70 is the new 60 really, and although it is a while until I get there myself, I have several friends of that age and over, and they do far more stuff than I do!

My next one is 70 - next Feb. A BBQ would be nice - if it happens it will be nice shorts and a terrific top, 'cos the Queensland weather will still be hot.

In the UK it would be lovely pants and boots, with an absolutely beautiful jumper, and a golden brown colour in my hair - well, the colour would happen anywhere.

And I'd have a wonderful time drinking whatever I wanted as I never drive, and eating all that lovely meat and salad, in the company of family and friends.

It's my DH's 69 birthday on Friday and we are going to celebrate with the family. Our 3 year old GS will be giving Grandad a variety of gifts all made of chocolate! I suspect it will be a Chocfest to remember.

Congratulations Nansy and Grumppa. My DH will achieve the days of his years in January when everyone has lost interest in celebrating. Please may I have some ideas for the man who has probably had everything?
I'm having all the slides he took in the Sixties and Seventies put onto CD and thinking of getting him a day out fishing somewhere special. I thought of getting the grandchildren and their parents to come on a Nile cruise as it's affordable and in school holidays instead of meeting up for Christmas but Egypt is still a bit restless. Didn't intend to derail your post Nansy but suggest borrow Galen's pearls ,dig out the ball gown and buy a tiara from pound land .

I think 70 is regarded as a bit special because of Psalm XC, verse 10 :

"The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."

The sense of achievement is counterbalanced by the gloomy foreboding. so have a wild day I had a great time Last month.

70 isn't so bad if you are celebrating with your nearest and dearest as I did. Just let them spoil you - as I did!
Have fun and somehow you'll find you reached your three score and ten without noticing how you got there.

I must say Rosesarered that it feels an enormous jump from 69 to 70 - far bigger than 59 to 60! It'll be light relief to have all my friends round to MY house after the hell I've been through in the last few years. That's why I wondered whether to dress up - not posh stuff, more fancy dress!!?? ..... Maybe not!!

Happy 70th birthday Nansypansy wear what your comfortable in, nothing worse than being trussed up in something and it spoiling your night.

For a B-B-Q I would go for something comfortable. Jeans or casual trousers and a pretty top maybe. A cosy cardigan if it is chilly.

Wow, 70 [the big one!]It will depend on the weather really, a pretty but informal dress maybe as it's a BBQ, if it's cold-ish wear a wrap/or waterfall type cardi over it.If you are a jeans/trousers person then simply a nice [non t shirt ] type top.No jewllery needed for a BBQ, or complicated hairstyle, just be yourself and enjoy the attention.
