I was never a Tom Jones fan but saw him a couple of times in the '60s when he was on with other people. He happily signed autographs backstage afterwards. I was really into all the Liverpool sound and wasn't really into powerful singers, but I was at a friend's house once and she played With These Hands by Tom Jones. I can remember the hairs on the back of my neck standing up at the power of his voice. I think he's great these days.

and there were even some Zimmer frames. Well, after the first number, just about the whole row got up and walked forward as one, lifting a chain of big granny bloomers all stitched together and ceremoniously handed them to him at the front of the stage. It brought the house down.
