Well I already knew that, thank you jane, but the word 'spunky' has long been used as Soutra meant it!

I suppose it's a bit like 'ballsy' - all male-sexual-bits-related

Congratulations sparkygran on your 50th anniversary and on being recognised as a person who has managed to stay strong throughout some upsetting and difficult times. How lovely of your niece to express her admiration and make your day even more special.

Well done sparkygran. Someone put on the thought for the day thread 'we don't know how strong we can be until we have no choice'. That is absolutely true from one strong woman to another - that might sound like self-praise but I have been through the mill so many times I feel entitled to call myself strong.
