Well done sparkygran. Someone put on the thought for the day thread 'we don't know how strong we can be until we have no choice'. That is absolutely true from one strong woman to another - that might sound like self-praise but I have been through the mill so many times I feel entitled to call myself strong.
Congratulations sparkygran on your 50th anniversary and on being recognised as a person who has managed to stay strong throughout some upsetting and difficult times. How lovely of your niece to express her admiration and make your day even more special.
Although (harking back to the 'minx' thread) in Australia apparently 'spunky' means sexually attractive...it's a minefield, but of course sparkygran may well embody both meanings of the word!
Congratulations on your Golden Anniversary, sparkygran! I'm sure it's a true saying - 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger'. I hope the future is a lot easier for you.
For the past year I have had to cope with an enormous amount of stress from 3 family bereavements to DH`s severe stroke. On Friday we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary and DD organised a delightful afternoon of afternoon tea at a plush hotel with champagne flowing - most of which I drank - well most of them were driving and DH is not drinking anyway on to today and a niece who was there equated me to 2 women from a bygone age that I have always admired for their strength and fortitude - Queen Matilda and Eleanor of Aquataine - I`m actually still reeling from the fact that someone thinks I am a strong woman coping with what life has thrown at me. Thank you Anne you have made my day.
