soutra and bellasnana what a difficult time you are having for you both and some too if it helps you relax. My DH and I spend all our time together too (from choice) and when he's been in hospital I can't seem to function properly with out him. The worry is so exhausting too (even when it's not as hot as this). Thinking of you both and hoping you both have your DH's back home soon.

soop piles of ironing here..... feel free to pop 'down south' and help me out (you are welcome to bring your vacum cleaner too). I can provide pimms and cucumber sandwiches

Nice try AliOxon you know what ironing is ... it's that pile of clothes sitting in the corner looking at you trying to make you feel guilty (do what I do and cover it with a big towel and pretend it's not there)!

Your very welcome Bella. Worry about your DH, driving back and forth for visits, traffic jam and hoping he sleeps well tonight will be taking it out of you. Sit back and enjoy your Pimms and don't forget to,look after you too.

DD1 and our two DGDs have been at ours for the last three days. We've had a fabulous time especially with such lovely sunny weather, I am just about on my knees but worth it making more memories of fun times together.

What is 'ironing'?

I'm with you anno with regards to the ironing. I'm only doing it as we need it. I tried to take the dog for a walk by the river, she got a little way along the path, stopped, looked at me as if I was silly, turned round and went home. Well, she is 15, and I suppose she thought it was too warm for a walk. [Hmm]

Very hot here today, now it is raining but I don't think there will be enough to give a good watering - just enough to bring the roots up to the surface.

soop- I do admire you! As far as I'm concerned, it's much too hot to do the ironing. The fan is going full tilt and keeping me relatively cool at the moment. This afternoon I was in the garden, revising the book for tonight's book group, a little gentle watering.

Agus you star! A Pimms and nibbles are just what I need having been stuck in traffic on the way back from visiting DH in hospital.
He is feeling a bit nauseous today despite medication, and he looks poorly for the first time. I hope he will get a better night's sleep as he said he was up and down a lot last night.

Dearest soop I appreciate your lovely words. You understand, which means a lot. It may sound corny but for the past 34 years DH has been the other half of my heart. Like you, we often sit in companiable silence for some time, and we sometimes drive each other mad, but we are very close.

Well, I must knock my Pimms back and take the dog for his walk. It is blowing a gale but at least that means we will be cooler!

Okey dokey...I'm about to push the vacuum cleaner from room to room. After which, I've laundry to sort and iron. A lovely long glass of chilled Pimms and a cucumber sandwich would be a much more pleasant way of passing the time. Sadly, no Pimms and the cucumber is past it's prime! Hey ho! as bags would say.

As I was saying...Bella I know exactly what you mean when you say that walking your dog [without your husband for company] feels very strange. MacS and I do most things together. We take the early morning stroll together...when he was poorly and unable to join me, the pleasure was diminished. Folk would stop and ask after him. Many added that they felt sad seeing me alone. Mind you, we can go hours on end without exchanging a word. We seem to know what the other is feeling and thinking. Some people would feel uncomfortable with that degree of closeness. It suits us. It doesn't do anyone any harm.
Soutra What a mammoth task you undertook with your husband and in such uncomfortably humid weather that saps the energy even when one is fit and able. Moveprep does the same business as Picalax oh dear, what a horrible experience it is. You would think that some clever clogs could have invented something much gentler on the system.
number it isn't the cost of the ornament that matters...it's that you treasured it. Many of my "treasures" have next to no value.
I do believe that this must be the warmest day we've experienced for a very long time. I suggested that a Magnum ice cream might go down well. MacS didn't need coaxing...off he went...back he came bearing gifts...which we ate immediately. It is too hot to sit in the garden. Rory is stretched out in the shade. He has barely opened an eye today.
We paid our pal, who has just come home from three months in hospital [a stroke] a visit...he looked well. He's lost a good bit of excess weight. Still some way to go. He hasn't lost all the use of his affected arm and leg. We had a blether and caught up with each other's news. His twin sister, our neighbour and good friend, starts chemo in mid-August for her lung cancer. Two other pals of ours have also been recently diagnosed, one with cancer of the liver and the other with prostate cancer. Such a cruel disease.
Tonight at eight o'clock, we'll be watching the opening of the Commonwealth Games ceremony in Glasgow. It should be a very proud occasion for the people of the city. I do hope that when the games are over, the facilities will be used and enjoyed by many local people.

Another of our granddaughters graduated today. Lauren is a "people person"...she has been caring for people with special needs during her time at Bristol Uni'.

Bellasnana, all the best to you and your husband. My arm is getting there, albeit slowly.
Tegan, I`m afraid that these broken bits just went in the bin! It wasn`t a valuable ornament, it was a dark grey cat, about 4" high, that I bought on my first visit to the little village shop where we`d just moved to, it cost me 99p, but I`d had it since 1978, so it had a good innings I suppose.

It all came at the end of a very trying few days too Tegan DH has been so weak he has not been able to walk more than 20 yards without difficulty and even that very slowly, then the thunder storms stopped either of us sleeping (while I held Grace's paw - she was terrified) and then he was very sick on Saturday night, befoe starting his Moviprep "cleanse" on Sunday. Frankly I wasn't sure we would get there at all at one point!!
(I didn't hang around the hospital once he had gone for the iron infusion but took a bus down to the Imperial War Museum and had a couple of hours looking at wonderful paintings from World Wars i and II)

I bet you could have done without the heat as well . Still, as you say, at least it's done now.

Well done to your DGD soop - we do worry about the young ones don't we and rejoice in their achievements!
especially to bellasnana I know know frustrating it cais to be psyched up for treatment and then to have the procedure in doubt Hoping this course goes well for your DH.
We have had an exhausting 2 days - I wish I could have organised for DH to be admitted overnight to spare us the return visit today but wasn't able to set that up. Yesterday was a 13 hour day - we left home at 9.15 and didn't get back until half past 10. DH's procedures all went well but they hadn't allowed enough time between the iron infusion and the gastroscopy so the timings were all out and he was still in theatre at 7 o clock. Mobility asssistance at Euston on the way down worked wellbut not on the way back ("sorry love, I've only got one driver") but he managed to walk, slowly, to the train. Ths gastro consultant agreed with me that it might be better to reschedule today's echocardiogram and for DH to have a quiet day, but he woke up on a high after the boost of iron to his blood cells and decided he wanted to get it over with before the hb drops again so off we trotted. Home by 4.30 this time and much less stressful than yesterday (those who have experienced colonoscpies will know about Moviprep and trying to coordinate a journey of 50 miles can be fraught!)
Frankly I could have wept with exhaustion when he decided he wanted to go ahead with today's visit, but I am glad we have it all behind us (until the Haematology appointment in August) and no problems showed up with his heart or aorta this time.

Not sure if you have gone now, Bellasnana, but I will say cheers to you as I sip a cold NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Good news that your DH has had his treatment, and hope that he is soon strong enough to go for walks with you.

Tegan, that is fascinating! If we found bits of pottery in the garden we used to ask the DC if they thought they were Roman or not! (probably 1960s Woolworth's).

Congratulations to your DGD, Soop, how wonderful that she has achieved her dream job.

Hope your DH is feeling OK after his treatment, Soutra. The journey sounds quite an ordeal in itself, but if he is in the best hands that is what matters.

It is still very warm here and I probably should not be drinking a glass of , water would be more in order. Apparently tomorrow will be even warmer.

number; I have a jar full of bits of old crockery that I've found in the garden over the years. When I broke something precious [it was usually the cats that did it when I had cats] I would add the broken bits to my 'treasure' collection. I think the ancient Minoans did something simliar.

This is my third attempt at popping into the kitchen, the last two were thwarted by Skype calls from my dear sister, and DD2, and my messages had disappeared into the ether when I returned.

Hope all went well today, Soutra and that it didn't prove too much of an ordeal for your DH.

We were at the hospital bright and early for DH to be admitted for his second cycle of chemo. There was some humming and hawing because his blood count was a bit on the low side, but in the end they decided to give him the treatment anyway but with a slightly reduced dose. He is now settled in for the next four days. His spirits are mostly good so hopefully he won't feel too worn down by the treatment.

I've just taken the dog for his walk and it felt sad not having DH with me. We do most things together so I miss him when he's not here.

Well, I always say I never drink alone so I have brought my in here to be with you, although the kitchen seems a little empty just now. Perhaps Rory will keep me company

Time for me to log off the 'puter and make myself useful. Rory is giving me the evil eye. It must be his tea time.
Beautiful day. Parent swans just drifted past on a glassy sea. They have five amazing cygnets. Father led the troop. Mother acted as rear guard. Would you believe that the camera is in the car!

It has been a day of happy news. My first husband has been in hospital for three months. We thought that we were going to lose him. Never dreamt that he would return home. Yet...that is where he is and happily reunited with his second wife. My eldest son put a super photo of them both on Facebook.
