name change

has you fat finger got a cold as well, Galen?

Anyone had a reply from GNHQ about name changing yet?

Apparently you have to do it by deed poll

Going back a bit, yes Phoenix, I remember the Colin Baker incident, it was hilarious! Can`t be bothered to change my name anyway, I`d probably forget who I was!

If anyone changes name by deedpoll, do make sure you keep all paperwork, insurances, life insurances, will, etc, in the new name and copies of the deedpoll given to family. In many countries, in Francefor instance, this system does NOT exist- and if the name on your birth or marriage certificate do not tally- you cannot believe the incredible difficulties that causes.

Yes, strange that, jingl...(re your post of 23.09 yesterday).
I had a post deleted for a similar reason - no snotty email though, perhaps mine was more ambiguous .

I thought I was a prickly Rose?

Merlotgran- I agree. Why oh why and what is the point?

People's style, language and syntax come through so quickly anyhow.

granjura, some members may have left in a huff and regretted it, others may have caused trouble and want to make a new start.

There will of course always be those (e.g. students and schoolkids) who chance their arm again in the hope that they'll not be recognised.

GNHQ's decisions do seem to be cloaked in mystery - why one rule for MN and another for GN? Why are some former members welcomed back with open arms and others barred?

I had a reply from GNHQ whichich I have pm d to our Jing!
I've had no reply from her.

This is the reply
GNHQ have sent me this
Just to reassure you, we haven't changed our policy on name-changing at all. This quote is from our netiquette guide on the forums, and has remained the same throughout: "We don’t allow members to change their usernames because we want everyone to be able to trust the relationships they build up with others on Gransnet."

We've never encouraged name-changing and our policy has been different from MN's from the start in that we like members to know who they're talking to. We have changed some names in the past to protect anonymity, or for other specific reasons. Of course, some members have de-registered and then registered again with a new email address and username, but we don't encourage it.

Seems reasonable to me

It's codswallop.

It's a forum, not a dating agency.

Granjura a very simple reason is, if you leave because you have become upset, and then want to rejoin later, you were not allowed back on with same name. You had to change it. Just a small change was enough. Like adding a number.

Have you not had your nine lives, jingl?

I didn't use a new email address when I changed my username so if that is now required it is a new requirement and the information given to galen would appear to be not quite correct.

Probably. Perhaps that's what it's all about in my case.

I would like to know. Better to go voluntarily perhaps.

That was to Annaries

No, that would be silly. Better to go out in a blaze of glory if you have to.
