Years ago I did something similar - we put our hands out to break our fall, don't we? My mother-in-law got the blame for my accident, because she phoned as I was coming up the front path after putting waste paper out for collection. I tripped and broke the trapezium on my right hand. I answered the phone and all she wanted to talk about was how well her 'other' grandchildren were doing, and wouldn't listen to me when I told her that Id fallen and that I felt sick! So I had to cut her off and WAS sick. Don't think she ever really forgave me for that!

I watched my mum do piles of ironing....I don't! Especially jeans.
Most things when you wear them flatten out anyway.
I was carefully taught how to iron a hankie - what use is that now?

I find that the washing machine puts creases into them which body heat doesn't remove.

Oh dear, soop, I don't mean that you are 'daft' for ironing, you are indeed very virtuous. It is just not my forte (one day I may find out what is my forte).

Before you all start thinking how virtuous (or daft) I am and that I am always 'dashing away with a smoothing iron', it is not true. DH does
all most of it as he was very concerned that I didn't do it properly! So I have been letting him demonstrate how it should be done for some years now.

I thought jeans were invented as tough outdoor work wear. I don't think mine look excessively crumpled from being unironed.

And if they do, well... shrug... Life is too short, etc.

Pay someone else to do it, but tend to try to buy things that don't need it.

Thanks for the good wishes, it isn't a Colles fracture Charleygirl, I think that would be worse. It is less painful today so that's an improvement already.

I'm curious about all of you who don't iron, how does that work? I'm not a great fan of ironing but some things need it. Jeans, cotton or linen shirts for example. Please let me in on your secret.

J and baby are still in the hospital, both have had a slight infection of some kind and are on antibiotics....seeing her tomorrow, I think. I hear they are both improving. My sister is on the way there today.

My ironing board is now in the tool shed...I think I used it once in the last few years, but it's an antique (?) and came from a secondhand shop at the bottom of the Hawkhill in Dundee - in the 1960s. And it cost 2/11d!

Galen my ironing board and iron are like yours, in excellent condition. I think that I have used the iron once in two years. Now that I no longer work, there is little necessity. Think of the electricity I am saving!

soop I may well come down at night as I don't sleep well. I'm glad you like my name. When I changed it I wanted to be called goldfinch but I was told there was already a member of that name though I have never seen him/her post.
