Let me die a young man's death

I'd forgotten this one! I've always loved Roger McGough, both his poems and his voice. I remember seeing him with the Scaffold several times in my student days.

And today of all days, the first verse is even more poignant.

I think I'm more with Woody Allen on this one.
'I'm not afraid of dying - I just don't want to be there when it happens.'

You should change to Talk Talk as your phone provider.Things may have changed now but when I tried to report a fault a few years ago,while on hold to India as usual, I was subjected to Roger McGough reading his own poems for hours,the same few over and over.I certainly lost any liking I had for him then!!

Ah the lovely Roger McGough. I love his gentle voice.

They were such good writers those Liverpool poets. Wonder if they`d say the same about death in their old age? Its easy to be brave as a youngster when death is a sort of distant, theoretical possibility. I always liked the Betjeman poem "Death at Leamington". It felt so authentic to me.
