Hi Everybody,I joined Gransnet last May and still consider myself a newbie,I have posted once or twice but am a bit slow to put my foot in the water Yes I'm a genuine Gran (two lovely grandsons) I have been meaning to fill in my profile (next couple of days-promise-its a bit late tonight) I haven't looked at the competitions yet but do hope to participate in more threads in the future. I absolutely love this site.

I don't actually tend to look at profiles. I have a missing curiosity gene.

Ana they did women as well. I used to laugh, especially when people said no-one like that existed, because I have met a few!

If everybody filled in their profile giving their gender, the information would be available for anybody who wanted it.

Weren't they country men? One of them used to be always bonking the kitchen sink or something...

Nfkdumpling I too wish I knew which posters were males - yet if asked I would say that it should make no difference! On most boards there is a little symbol by the side of a name to show the gender. We could do with that on here. Also the name of the board does rather assume that we are all women - which we clearly are not.

It's good to have a male point of view. It can be very informative at times of great puzzlement. Men have said that they can't understand women for centuries. However I think it's just plain people that can't always be understood, and as for meetups, I have met up with some lovely male board members (not from here) over the years and they are now very good friends.

Galen perhaps we are best kept apart!

Did you ever see those sketches that French and Saunders used to do, of the two dreadful old countrywomen? We could be like that.

I for one am glad you posted.
I have only just joined myself, so dont know what has gone on before.
Anyway, hi!

I wonder what percentage of those lurkers are grandDADS, and who, like me, don't always feel that their input is particularly welcomed. I lurk here everyday and occassionally chip in when I feel that I have something relevant to add to the discussion - but I get so little response that even I am beginning to wonder if it is worth continuing.

Part of the problem is that a large proportion of threads unintentionally discriminate against men. A recent thread in Chat ("How to recognise a GNer") seriously suggested that anyone attending a meet-up should wear a scarf attached to their handbag. It might just as well have said "Oh and by the way, men aren't welcome".

I accept that some will think I am being hyper-sensitive, but remember that no-one likes to feel excluded. I am reminded of the time we went to the Caravan Show at the NEC a couple of years ago. There was a stand promoting Volvo Cars which had a 2-inch step all around it making it impossible for my wife (in a mobility scooter) to get into that area. I sought out the senior Volvo man there and complained and his reply to me was "It never occurred to us that any disabled person would want to come onto the stand". It's all about the mindset.

geraldine62 I could never be let loose on a radio station. Here, I can alter what I say before I say it, as it were. On a radio station I would probably be labelled The Next Katie Hopkins. In real life I am completely and horribly flippant and irreverent - in the true sense of the word.

Jane10, I suspect there are a lot more like you, than the people who regularly post. Nothing wrong in that.

From what I have noticed at first glance, the few who post a bit off, either retract it, or as janerowena says, it doesnt always quite read as intended[I am guilty of this].
The other option that I have come across is that the same few posters jump on most people, it is not personal if you see what I mean. Hope that helps.

Bakeware hasn't arrived yet! Never tried cupcakes. Graggy (banana) bread is the height of my repertoire at the moment. I only bake when seeing dgd's as I'm on a pernament diet!

what happened there? Oh well, don't like cupcakes anyway, I prefer a nice Victoria sandwich.
