Are you scared to leave your OH Home Alone?

I am fascinated. I thought loud angry (and convinced) denials of what is obviously the truth were just a quirk of DH's personality.

It can go further than that. The other day DH got a bee in his bonnet about being the only one in the house to switch off lights (which we two others always left on). So I paid attention and noticed that DH was always leaving lights on!

Adult GS (who lives with me) has kicked over his drink, which he likes to stand on the carpet, three times in the last two weeks. Luckily it is only water. Anyway, I'm not criticising him because, unlike DH, he can do no wrong

And none of us are clumsy and spill things? Just asking!

I can't say I encourage it, my DS is definitely banned from eating spaghetti bolognese in there, we too have a large pale rug.

We have a ban on eating in the lounge, when you have a plain carpet any spills show.

My friend says that her colleague has always said that he is a very clumsy person and messy eater, hence the 'ban'. I think she should just put down one of those toddler plastic playmats for him and be done with it. No, not losing his faculties, just convinced that he wasn't as clumsy as he is! I suppose she could buy him a feeder bib... I think they are a bit short of money, so she tried to get him to eat in the dining room, but there's no tv in there. She knew that as he was no longer working they would struggle to replace the carpet. I suppose a large rug will soon find its way to just in front of the sofa.

I am my OH is very definitely capable of doing something like that.

Deedaa Mine is also not good at looking after himself but any suggestion from me that he should try to improve his lifestyle is met with an angry denial.
He loudly claims that he does not sit up very late at the computer. (This is often until 5 or 6 am.) He denies that he does not get enough sleep or that this is a problem, and of course he does NOT nod off all day.

My only solution is to ignore it.

It seems a very odd thing to do! Is your friend's husband generally eccentric, scared of his OH or starting to lose mental faculties?

I wouldn't have a cream carpet, could get wine/baileys/crayon over it in our house!

Could make an interesting insurance claim.

That's hilarious - well it is from where I'm sitting. I don't think I'd be laughing if I were your friend's colleague.

Mrs. P is happy if I'm a home, it's when I go out alone she worries. "Not safe to be let out alone" as I said on another thread.

I worry when I (rarely) leave DH for a day. Sometimes he's fine, other times I find he hasn't bothered to eat lunch or get himself a drink and is dehydrated and on the verge of a hypo. I can't understand how a grown man can be unable (or unwilling) to take responsibility for his own health!

I am finding it hard to understand the concept of a grown man being forbidden to do anything in his own home. Asked not to,yes, a suggestion that he might eat in the kitchen/dining room ,yes but forbidden,no. No wonder he was so scared he did something stupid.

Yes, I guessed it was something like that. Didn't mean anything by it. Was just imagining the scenario.

I tried to move my father after a stroke when he fell over, I know what it must have been like, but oh dear!

Because it is too heavy for me to move. It sat in an alcove with a narrow space on each side - just enough to make the bed and to get in and out of it, but not wide enough to roll over if you are daft enough to fall. I think 18 inches was an exaggeration, it was more like 15, maybe even 12. The bedside tables were those quarter-circle drinks tables with the "leather" insert tops.

After that I got DS to turn the bed round so that DH's side was facing the open space and I was on the side nearest the inside of the alcove - I then had to negotiate two narrow corridors (at side and foot of bed) whenever I got in or out.

Nothing! I'm only asking.

I did until I tried to pull him out - 6 feet of well-built man is not easy to shift.

When Dh was not-very-well but OK to be left tucked up in bed for an hour I went out for lunch. Came back to find he had got out of bed and fallen and was stuck in the 18 inch space between the bed and the wall.

Me neither - but I do have a couple of friends who have to deliberately not tell their OH's when they will be back, in case they bring their motorbikes inside to give them a good servicing. Sadly neither of them feel that the kitchen or indeed their wives need as much consideration as their bikes do.
