What happened to British reserve?

I just typed this as part of a post on another thread and it got me thinking. What has happened to British reserve?
Studio audiences now always seem to be screaming, shouting, caterwauling etc. Do people generally seem to have less self-control than they had when we were younger?
Is this a bad or a good thing - a lot of what we hear on tv seems a complete over-reaction to whatever is happening in the studio. Or is it better to 'let it all out' with enthusiasm?

If you're supposed to go for the left cheek first, that means the other person is heading for your right cheek and not the left so who's right? confused

Whatever you do Merlot, be aware of the ones who pretend they are aiming for your cheek but slyly give you a smacker on the lips! grin

Thinking about it , I meant you go to your left, then right, and the other person does the same, then you don't clash. That seems to work in Italy, though sometimes you have to do an extra left, but I'm not sure of the rule on that one!!

merlot if you aim for the other person's left cheek, their lips will be close to your left cheek too, because you are facing them.
Confusion arises only when the opposing sides are aiming for different cheeks.
